Model R 7000 Suddenly no longer works without notice

Yesterday my Model R7000 AC1900 unit stopped working. I have been using it to extend my home wi-fi. I called Netgear and was told that I now have to buy a service plan for this unit. I was told that the unit was covered for three years which ended in 2022 so this makes no sense that all of a sudden it doesn’t work. I had no idea when I purchased the unit that it would only work for three years. I am extremely disappointed with the fact that I now have a unit that doesn’t work. The cost for the three year service plan is more than I paid for the original unit. I will not pay for a service plan and if this is how Netgear operates now I won’t ever purchase another product from this company.

What do you mean by no longer works?

    What's happening?

    Any top LED indications?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

I called Netgear customer service yesterday and they told me that the router/extender no longer works and I have to buy a service plan that costs more than the router did to begin with. I won’t be buying anything from Netgear again.

I tried the majority of your suggestions and appreciate the input. When I called Netgear customer service, they pulled up my information. They knew exactly when I purchased the product and they also could tell which FW updates had been done. They told me the router was only good for three years and that additional FW updates can’t be done without the purchase of a new service agreement. They gave me the options of a three year or five year plan. I am not going to spend more for a service agreement than I did for the router. They also told me that the purchase of a new product from Netgear only comes with 30 days of service coverage and every new customer has to buy a service agreement to cover beyond the 30 days.

  • So, did you really expect your R7000 router to give you notice before it stopped working?

    Inquiring minds want to know..........

No but it wasn’t apparent when I bought the product that it was life limited and then I am told I have to buy a service agreement that costs more than the router did. Quite the racket.

So with out more details and trying the suggestions, maybe worth seeing if anything helps to get the router working. Hard to know if you don't try and give more details.
