  • This is the reply from the helpdesk from yesterday : Hello,

Thank you for contacting Netgear Support.

Unfortunately our developers do not announce the release dates of upcoming firmware, so I am unable to supply you with that information.

You have indicated that there are problems with the router performance since you updated the firmware. In such a case, it is possible to downgrade the firmware, until a new version of the firmware is released that addresses the problems of the earlier version.

To downgrade your firmware, please follow these steps :

    1) Go to this link to download the firmware version 1.0.9.10. (Current version is 1.0.9.12)
    https://kb.netgear.com/000049003/R7000-Firmware-Version-1-0-9-10
->Save this file, and extract the zip into a folder, e.g. on your desktop
    2) Connect an Ethernet cable to your router and a laptop / PC
    3) Open a browser and go to this address : routerlogin.net
    4) Enter the password that you chose during the router setup. If you did not change it, it will be ‘password’
    5) When you see the menu, go to Advanced -> Administration -> Router Update
    6) Click on Browse and choose the folder where you unpacked the zip file, then choose the .chk file.
    7) Click on Upload and wait for the installation to complete.
I hope this will help you with the performance problem of your router.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Please note that if you prefer to communicate in Dutch just reply to this case in Dutch.

    Have a great day,

    Kind regards

    Joeri

Sure is.  Netgear has not released a fix for it yet and I don't foresee it anytime soon.  This will be the last Netgear I buy for sure.

Chiming in - unfortunately I have a 1week old baby so this is completely unacceptable. Our baby minotor, nest protect, nest security cam's, window monitor, door monitors, etc.... all rely on our wireless connectivity.

Devices will randomly lose network access and cannot reconnect until I reboot the router. The wireless will work for 24 hours before I have to reboot again. For now I will downgrade to R7000-V1.0.9.10_1.2.21 - but please fix as this is unacceptable and at this point in time a safety failure for my newborn.

  • There is absolutely no reason why this fix hasn't been out weeks ago. Why is this taking so long to patch this? Are the engineers at Netgear so incompetent they can't figure out a solution to this issue? This is very bad business ethics. People buy your products based on your false claims of speed, reliability and security. This is what we get? This is unacceptable we've been patiently waiting for months. When can we expect to get a new update?

"*bleep*" lol - got it, understood. For what it's worth my wireless just crapped the bed again and I am running R7000-V1.0.9.10_1.2.21

  • I have the same problem and I lost the Open VPN for all clients.

I called support and they had no idea how to downgrade the router's firmware - thank you for posting this.

  • How can I get a copy of an older firmware ?  Is there a search feature on the site?

  • Let me guess. You work for netgear. A total fail as a firmware provider for cus t omers. Total fail. Total fail.

Netgear barely has VPN functionality itself.

Frikking years after the R7000 came out, and tell me how to reset the VPN keys? Oh that's right, YOU CAN'T! If you ever suspect your key file was compromised by anyone you can never secure your LAN again so long as you have the Netgear VPN function on.

      Nice, eh?
