Nighthawk X8 R8500 Genie support?

Greetings.

I Already find the solution (if it can be call as so) of this subject right here. Very informative awnser towards this shared problem. My only question would be, when this type of router will be supported towards the genie application withouht being "obligated" to go through the "remotely access"?

Knowing that doing it in that way, may be a really dangerous issue towards "privacy concerning issues", as I understood it.

P.s. Please NETGEAR, allow the support on Nighthawk X8 with genie application.

  • OMG GUYS! FINALLY DID IT!!!!!!

My netgear wifi was giving me issue and not connecting to the 5ghz. And I had to restart my pc and or disabling the connection so it could connect withouht issue.

I did the hardcore reset. (as one of you guys mention)

    This was my step.

    1. Turn off everything and disconnect everything entirely, and connected again with the cables.

    2. Turn the Arris modem and reset it.

3.Turn off the Netgear and reset.

    4. Turn the Netgear and reset it again.

    5. Connect the yellow cable to the main modem

    6. Wiat for everything to boot up and issue solve

Guys thank you SO much for all the help, even though it did took me a lot to figuer it out and or understand this issue. Thanks for the advices and the ideas, they help me also to understand a bit.

I din't have to do nothing inside the Arris gateway. Now I can acess the gateway of my netgear. And din't think with logic, I just wne bananas and disconnect and did the hardcore reset. Now I will go and watch a guide to set up everything on my netgear from the gateway.

P.s. Finally! honestly thanks, thanks. I'm happy.

  • Do you think Genie does things you can't do manually yourself on any router? From now and then I come across Netgear routers. I never bother using Genie, not even once.

Well, the thing is that I do not know any other application or any other way to access and monitor my connection speed and who conects to my router.

Just popular speed test by Ookla is not good for you? Try Jperf then you can test speed realistically. You know what things like Genie makes people lazy IMO. It is like on a math calculation, instead of knowing steps to arrive at an answer  it is like just wanting to know the answer.

I just shake my head when I go to a bank, seems like tellers can't even to a simple algebra in their head, they need a calculator. What if calculator battery goes dead? At age nearing 80, I still fix laptops, desk tops for neighbors, set up their home network, surveillance cameras, repair my son's friends vaccum tube vintage guitar amps, etc. I gave my next door kid(grade 6)  a refurbished IBM Thinkpad. He promised me to cut my small lawn for this summer. Busy life is happy life, LOL! I know I am old fashioned!

  • Well I am not that "savy" on this stuff, even lately I have been learning a lot. I try to reset the router for 30seconds to see if that would make something (as I found that solution online) but still nothing. I even went directly to the internet properties to disable IPV 6, according to the application that is supposed to be disabled, but nothing still.

Danni-Boi What kind of feature you wanted to be part of the Genie?
Can you provide more details and information?

        Greetings there ElaineM

Well honestly, do not know. I just want to know if there is a "work around" the issue in which I am having towards the connection with both products. The genie and my current router. I try to understand and find some way towards my issue. I find out that apparently I had to reset the router in order to, let me access the gateway. Because that is another issue I have found with my router. I cannot access my gateway writting 192.168.1.1

Thinking about it while I write this. Would be very supportive if the model Nighthawk X8 R8500 can let itself supported with the genie app? Because I while I was trying to access it with the genie trough my phone and even downlading the application in my computer, it doesn't let me. It does tell me that in the support link, shows me if the model that I have is in the list of applicable routers using genie, in which it is, it does appear. Yet again, it also appears in the same prompt message, something about disabling the IPv6? And I have done it so. But still the application doesn't want it to be accessed.

I have also read finding online, that if for some weird case, the gateway doesn't work and neither the application... it might be the router that has some kind of malwere in is fuction. I have not try anything further.

  • Bealive me.
I have done the ipconfig to verify the IP address of my router using the cmd. That is why, my last resort was login in here :/

The thing is this, I have my router connected with the modem. If that does something against me not being able to access the gateway when I try to?

Even though when my modem is turn off?

In real world some times somethings are beyond logic. Just disconnect everything as I suggested. BTW, is that modem is combination mode/router?  And when you reset the router does reboot and comes up ready? Is the router functioning normal other being unable to

log in? If you ping the router does it respond normally? If so, what is the TTL value?

  • When I did the reset in the first time to prove. It did reboot normally as expected. And yes, if for what I understand to the question, my router is connected/combine to the modem with the yellow cables. DSL I think is what they call right?

Sorry maybe I was not clear about the modem. I was wondering if it is only modem or this modem also includes it's own router; I mean  modem/router combination unit. Or you have only one router that is R8500? Did you set it up yourself? I would like you to run ipconfig /all again notice what is IPV4 address. It should start with 198.162 and two more digits.

        Is okay no worries.

I just arrive home, let me do that. I have my Arris mode TG1672, connected whith my router R8500.

        Ipconfig: This is what appears...

        IPv4 Adress................... 192.168.0.14

        That is what it said's

  • OK. Is AP mode enabled on the R8500? Because it looks like you are connected to the modem/router's Wi-Fi, not the R8500's.

      Yes it is.

If you are reffering to the wifi signal, yes the router is giving me signal and my device is connected using the AcessPiont of the router itself.

  • OK. With AP mode enabled, the R8500 by default will have a dynamic address assigned by your modem/router. You will need to log into your modem/router and find the address it assigned. Use this address to log into the R8500. Write it down.

If the modem/router has an address reservation system, then you may want to use it in order to give the R8500 a stable address. Alternatively, configure the R8500 to use a static address, but you will have to make sure it is outside the range of addresses that can be assigned by your modem/router but is still inside the subnet.

      Oh okay.

I think I understood you. When I open my modem using the IP adress of the modem, there I can assign the specific adress to my router in order to fully access the routers potential feuters?.

I think that is the issue then? Because when I call the company (as I recall) they told me that the modem is turn off in order so my router could function. So the wifi connections don't interfere with one and other.

  • Yes that's right.

Since you are operating the R8500 as an AP, there is no need to turn off the Wi-Fi on the modem/router. You can use either Wi-Fi for expanded coverage in your house. Just make sure it's using different channel(s) from your R8500. I would only turn it off if it's slow.

      Yes it is as is.

At the moment I am here in the gateway of the modem/router I have bought, trying to find the solution you have wrote. In the Lan set up to see what is the adress is assigned.

      EDIT:

Should I edit the "Client IPv4 configuration"

In order to access the IP of the nighthawk router?

Is there is where I need to write the IP adress of the router so it allows it to open?

I don't know the model of your modem/router so I don't know what "Client IPv4 configuration" refers to.

You want to find the page on your modem/router that lists all of the attached devices and their IP addresses.  That page may also have the settings to reserve IP addresses for devices, or there may be a separate page.
