R7800 wireless clients cannot connect to lan clients
Hello,
I have the latest firmware 1.0.2.04 on R7800 and have an issue where my wifi client cannot access servers on lan on the same router. I found suggestions about firmware resets and turning off the router but that doesn't help. It seems that 50% of the traffic gets blackholed somewhere. LAN-LAN works just fine. WiFi-WiFi works good as well. But WiFi-LAN doesn't want to work.. Any ideas?
evel I'm using Kong Mod from myopenrouter.com. It's a straightforward process on how to replace the firmware (just look at the latest article). For VLAN tagging, you'll need to create a VLAN on eth0 (default WAN) interface (Setup->Networking) and assign a newly created port as WAN port on the same page. Once you're online - you can easily do the rest (wifi, services, etc). WIFI->LAN works right away.
Thx, Mansus.

None of those are using Guest?
It shouldn't be happening, the only thing to due is reset to defaults and or try another FW
- mansusAspirant
Nope. None are using guest. Actually I tried guest wifi with enabled option to be able to see other clients but that didn't help either.

Use Ping to see if you can ping a LAN device from a WIfi
- mansusAspirantstorm1985, thank you for your input. However why would it "should" work? Ping runs over icmp protocol which runs over udp. HTTP, SMB run over TCP/IP. For example, I'm trying to RDP to another PC. And the first phase is successful - e.g. it prompts me for the credentials. However after credentials are entered the connection fails within some seconds with an "internal error has occurred". But accessing the services on the router (e.g. router gui) works just fine. Ergo it does seem like a firmware issue to me.

I am having the same issue.
I have multiple wireless devices that cannot access LAN resources.
I can ping the wired resources but:
1. Cannot access a wired NAS device from wireless devices. Wired can access it fine.
2. Cannot control a wired Roku3 from my android phone over wifi
3. Cannot RDP to my wired desktop from my wifi laptop
Again, ICMP is fine. Anything else will sit and spin until it times out.
It was working fine until I updated to the latest firmware. 1.0.2.04
I also starting using it with a fiber connection and setup a VLAN bridge group.
- Yes, you should be able to reinstall the current firmware.
- mansusAspirantDrCthulhu it seems your're not the only one with CenturyLink issues. A quick search shows http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=300259&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15&sid=43b3a6aa43349a3e1540902fb0a7750a
So it seems the easiest solution would be to buy a cheap managed switch and tag the port where CL is connected with VLAN201
Thx, Mansus.- DrCthulhuAspirant
Thanks mansus I did find that. I think I'm just going to return the r7800 and get an asus rt-ac3200 similar specs and people have actually got it working with Centurylink and their wireless networks. It is mind boggling to me that a $230 router cannot handle a simple task of allowing wireless and wired networks to talk to each other. That is simply inexcusable.

well shoot. thanks for posting your experience with CL and Kong. I haven't had a chance to give it a go. I'll skip it now and not waste my time.
I may hook up my NAS via USB. Pain in the butt workaround but than nothing for now.
Hi,
I have managed to identify the cause of the issue in my case, the router can't handle NAT properly I guess, if I turn off the DynDns and restart... I can connect to lan devices... SSH from wireless...

I'm not using DDNS. This option is disabled on my router and still cannot connect LAN devices.

i even did factory reset and default settings and still couldnt connect to LAN side from WLAN, i am now using a ASUS router and have no issues at all.
after chatting with support even with skype we couldnt fix this issue, that made me bring the router back and declare it as a factory defect.
my ASUS is much more user friendly and more stable, i will never go back to Netgear routers (switches they are the best but routers i wont even bother anymore).
this router is nothing compared to ASUS RT-AC87U, and the ASUS was cheaper.
i know that support is not to blame, we spend hours together trying to even pin point the issue, but the firmware is seriously not ok imo.

What speed you have on ASUS RT-AC87U on 5GHz? On R7800 I can reach even 450Mb/s.
I'm also thinking to return my Nighthawk and move to something else.
- hamditAspirant
up to 2334 Mbps on 5G is possible in the specs but i have to see on my laptop what speed i am connected with.

I don't have the luxury of returning mine. I'm well past Frys return date. It was working fantastically until updated the firmware and enabled VLAN. I ran another CAT6. Now I don't have anything on wireless that needs to access wired storage. Sad workaround but it is what it is at this point.

Can you down grade FW to what had been working?
Does it work if you don't use any VLAN configurations?

I have returned back the router to netgear, they should fix their firmware, i don't want to use DD WRT and loose the warrenty.
I bought the ASUS RT AC5300 and I can say it is a fantastic device...everything is working as expected.

Good morning people,
so I asked if there is any progress and mentioned the two threads here in the board.
Immediately got an answer if I can provide my configuration.
They will forward the configuration to the engineering department, so I hope they can figure out what's causing this issues.
- streiluGuideI got an answer that the engineers need some debug logs, will provide them later today or tomorrow.
Let's see if they find any solution with the logs. - hamditAspirantNetgear support acnowledged the issue to me, this I could show to the store I bought it from after About two months trying to fix this with support.
It is not doing what it supose to do and store agreed and i got a ASUS now, imo superior to what I had in every way and cheaper.
I lose my patience faster I guess, specially on products with this price point.
I didnt want to fiddle around with custom firmware also, for me it should be my way for €250 product of this category
Compared to asus, its night and day!!!!I performed test from LAN to wireless. LAN client was unable to access shares from wireless client. If I changed connection from LAN to wireless there was no issue with access.
Netgear Agent asked me to provide:
Configuration file from router
Screenshot of advanced tab from router
Wireshark dump from LAN client (ping/SSH/HTTPS/...) to NAS
Wireshark dump from Wireless client (ping/SSH/HTTPS/...) to NAS
More update soon.
