ReadySHARE Windows 10 + KB3189866
Windows 10 cumulative update KB3189866 breaks readyshare. :smileysurprised:
Uninstall it if you can't access your readyshare folder.
Problem solved.
The solution below absolutely worked for me!
The one thing to say is that when you create the Windows Credential - you must enter a user name and password, and...
1. I had to configure readyshare itself to allow read and write access to a username - i selected admin.
2. The windows credential required the router username "admin" and the password for admin. I tried my windows username and password, and i was able to connect to map the drive, but not open the contents of it. With admin and the password, i was able to get it to work!
>Found a solution:
>go into user account in control panel
>if you're in windows 10 select manage your credentials this will open 2 options
>web credentials and windows credentials
>head to windows credentials and add a new windows credential
>enter the location of the drive \\readyshare on the first line
>your windows user name in the second line
>your windows password in the third line
>and you're done, you should see the drive under network and be able to access it as before

I can confirm this. I had the same problem on R6250 router. Uninstalled the latest update and it's now working again.
Message I would receive was:
A specified logon session does not exist. It may have already been terminated.
I have tried recreating the drives, resetting the router, the PC, checked my credentials on WIndows. Storing network credentials is disabled

Can't upvote this enough! Thank you!
For reference, I have the R7000 wireless router and had a seagate usb drive connected to it. Everything was fine until earlier this week.
- Same here. R7000, a WD Elements and a WD My Password drive which can not be accessed from both a laptop with Windows 10 and a desktop with Windows 10. Started about yesterday or the day before that. Got the Windows update about 9/15. Upgraded the firmware of the R7000 but with no positive result. I can access both devices with my iPhone, iPad and AppleTV 4.
In the proces of recreating a connection on a Windows device I created a second link to one of the drives. This extra link was visible in the Apple devices but failed to work. - AresSKAspirant
Same.
An error occurred while connecting M: to
\\READYSHARE\USB_Storage
Microsoft Windows Network: A specified logon session does not
exist. It may have already been terminated.
This connection has not been restored.
****quick edit: If it helps, I have an AC Nighthawk router with a WD Passport drive attached via the front usb.

I'm on W10 Home x64 with ALL the latest updates.
I've have this exact same problem on both PC's here. One is a laptop, the other a desktop, with very different configs. They both started failing at the same udpate.
ScanNow completed with no problems
I tried:
net use s: \\routerShare\HD1 - S being my previously mapped drive that no longer allows access
System error 1312 has occurred.
A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated.
Same error it gives me in windows more or less.
If I use a drive letter that isn't mapped:
System error 67 has occurred.
The network name cannot be found.
I couldn't get net share to work either
Also I tried this on the cmd line:
\\routershare\hd1
The request is not supported.
My desktop PC is about as vanilla as you can get and it's showing the same problems. There have been numerous people reporting this on my other thread, so I am sure it's more widespread than just my PC.
Thanks for the tips and ideas but I'm still stuck without working USB router access.

I have the exact same problem.
1. \\readyshare DOES NOT WORK - it results in "A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated."
2. HTTP access works
3. FTP access works
4. Creating a network share from the HTTP web site DOES NOT WORK
Any answers yet?

Works for me?
R7000 on the latest official F/W, V1.0.7.2_1.1.93. USB 2.0 connected External 1TB drive. W10 Home, same KB installed:
NET VIEW works:

readyshare

Movies Disk read:all-no password;write:all-no password

Am I missing something here?

Hooch80,
I did this and it worked for me! Thank You for researching this and publishing the solution.
I just had the motherboard replaced on my Lenovo desktop computer and afterwards a plethora of Windows updates installed. I suspect my old credentials where lost or whatever.
I can now map the drive and access \\R7000\USBStorage
Great Job!
- Dear ElaineM,
From whom can I expect finally a solution? Is this a Netgear thing or a Microsoft issue? Is there any development yet?- IrvSpMaster
I am NOT sure who should own this problem. It works fine as long as you use it properly I think?
First of all, my post above yours shows I can 'see' the USB drive and have the latest Windows Update, the Aniv. Update.
Second, if one p/w protects the drive OR folder it stops anything, such as most remote programs that can NOT handle the UID/PW request.
Again, let me demonstrate. I can see the drive with a NET VIEW command:
==========
C:\>net view
Server Name Remark

\\READYSHARE readyshare

I can DO a network drive attach (:
==================
C:\>net use Z: \\readyshare\usb_storage

I can 'look' at Z:

NOTE I have 2 shares, USB_Storage (which I did a NET USE to as Z:) and Movies. On is P/W protected, the other is NOT protected.
I can do a DIR to Movies:

So it works for me. Why am I not having a problem? What I know I CAN NOT do is access the UID/PW protected USB_Storage or the folders under it UNLESS the program/device trying to access those folders are able to handle the UID and PW. My iPad apps that can play movies or music off of the USB drive CAN NOT do it if they are under USB_Storage, but can on the Movies share.
I've never had a problem doing any of this, and I used at first Explorer to open the network and the open the USB drive and use the Context Menu to share the drive as Z:, without a problem.
How are you trying to do this, a different way?
The anniversary update itself wasn't a problem, some updates since then have caused the problem. I still have the original update I mentioned uninstalled. I new update was pushed yesterday and this again caused the issue so I had to uninstall that one also.
This needs some direction from Netgear as to whether this is a router issue that needs a firmware update or if it's a problem on Microsoft's side. Continually uninstalling updates or forcing them to not install again is going to get tedious really quickly.
Thanks!
- It seems not to be clear yet if it is a MS thing or a Netgear thing, wright? What about the routers, is only the R7000 involved?
I'm using a R6250
I'm using McAfee Viruscan Enterprise 8.8 - DAT Sept 23 2016
Checked all network settings and all look good. Like I mentioned before the laptop and desktop are configured quite differently, the laptop has a lot of stuff on it, desktop hardly anything, more of a server really.Turn on Password protected sharing is on, though this hasn't changed and worked before the updates.
Agreed that there have been a lot of changes and issues since the Ani update. I got a response in the other thread saying this problem went away again on a newer fast track build, so perhaps it was accidentally broken and they are planning a fix. I have set up a script to map the drives, which for now solves my problem and updates are back on. I'll drop disabling next time we get a build update and see what happens.
- IrvSpMaster
I'm leaning towards the culprit being MS.
