Solved

Router internal IP is not the same as my external IP provided by provider.

I have 2 R7000 routers.

On one of them the router internal ip (found while using the browser to access the router) is the same as my say... (what's my ip) ip address.

On the other router those two ips are not the same and I think it is causing problems for me to access the router remotely.

ie. the router that 'works' correctly

1.2.3.4 is the router internal ip

1.2.3.4 is my 'what's my ip' ip

great. all good.

Now on the one that is 'not working' correctly... (I know, it's working, but it's some 'setting'?)

5.6.7.8 is the router internal ip

2.5.8.1 is my 'what's my ip' ip

I really appreciate any help / feedback.

Cheers

No, they are not connected to each other.

They are at different physical addresses.

I think tonight I'll turn off the router, turn off the modem.

        Wait 5 minutes.

Boot the modem, wait till it's fully up.

Then turn on the router and see if the numbers match...

        I'm betting that they will....

        Fingers crossed....

        thanx

    A couple things.

    1. like FURRYe38 says, you're running a double nat. According to your screenshot, your internal ip address is the 10.0.0.* address while the wan port is a192.168.1.***. meaning you're showing us the info from the 2nd router. That'd be the double nat. Put your 2nd router in AP mode so you're all on the same subnet/internal ip address range.

    2. There's a difference from internal lan addresses to public ip addresses. google is your friend for more info on this

    3. What are you trying to achieve? Telling us you're having ip address issues doesn't tell us what you're trying to resolve or do with this info. That might help for us to understand what you're base issue is you're trying to fix.

Thank you!, great forum help! really...

        plemans and FURRYe38

I called optimum and they put their router in 'bridge' mode.

Restarted the modem and router and bang... numbers match...

No wonder I couldn't get port forwarding to work at home!!!

        Again, to both you folks...

Thank you for taking the time to provide such pertinent feedback.

        Issue solved....

        Cheers

      thanx for your time....

The first screenshot is 100%, both images from the same computer. (my home setup)

Here is the 'same' representation of my 'office' set up.

Where both numbers are the same.
