NV+ and remote file access
I have a ReadyNAS NV+ (sparc) running RAIDiator 4.1.14 [1.00a043]. I have a number of shares that I would like to make securely assessable via the web. I have a mix of Mac and Windows machines including Windows on the Mac via Parallels. Since WebDAV no longer seems to work in the Windows environment I wondered if there's another option. ReadyNAS Remote was enabled in 4.1.14 but it seems like it's converting to ReadyCloud and following the guidelines on the readynas site I can't seem to get either working. Am I wasting my time? Is there a way to get remote access to my NAS in a cloud-like or webDAV like way?
Please help. Thanks,
- Charles

- NhellieVirtuosoUnfortunately ReadyCloud only works with OS6.2.x, this is an ongoing issue with the old ReadyNAS Remote Users.
Check these threads, might help you a bit.

viewtopic.php?p=442820#p442820 - you should be able to see old readynas remote installers here - Thanks for those links. ReadyNAS Remote - it was the client installs I couldn't find - thank you! I will try those. It was frustrating because when I clicked the link form within my NAS to the website the instructions talked about the installers but then took me to ReadyCloud which of course did not work.
Thanks,
- Charles - Ugh this is really frustrating. So I installed the OS X client no problem. I logged in at https://remote.readynas.com/ (the ReadyCloud account worked there too) but when I installed ReadyNAS Remote and followed the instructions to log in from the client all I get is "Login Failed". In ReadyNAS Remote if I click on Properties and then click view profile it takes me to https://remote.readynas.com/ in the browser and guess what - I can log in JUST FINE. But I enter those same credentials in ReadyNAS Remote and all I get is "Login Failed". What am I doing wrong? I thought this as supposed to be very simple (according to the instructions)...
Help!
Thanks,

- Nhellie,
Yes I just "upgraded" to Yosemite last week as fate would have it... but even so I can't get it working on Windows 7 either (using the ReadyNAS Remote client for Windows). On the Mac I can still make WebDAV work just fine and attach a remote drive via HTTPS thru finder. So if I could at least get ReadyNAS Remote working on windows then I could be in business for now...
Any advice appreciated...
- Charles - Hey I got the ReadyNAS Remote client to login from Windows and on the NAS I have the user I logged in as listed as having access on the ReadyNAS Remote set-up but... from the client it shows no servers connected... I feel like I'm getting closer. Any thoughts on why the NAS won't show in the Ready NAS Remote client for Windows?
- Update - so I think my Win7 client for ReadyNAS Remote is logged in and I can click the option "Connect to ReadyNAS" and it opens a file explorer and "ReadyNAS Shares" looks like another drive - great BUT... where are my shares? It's all blank. The instructions say I may need to log in as a user having access to the share. So how do I do that???!?!?!?!??!?! It just shows me a blank friggin window - no shares, no option to connect as a user I have defined on the server. I have user level security set-up on the NAS. Help!
Thanks,

I saw the other thread you have created, I believe it is much better if you can keep it in one post only. (I guess the admins doesn't want multiple threads on a single topic)
can you try opening port 6300 and forwarding it to the IP of the NAS? After that, try rebooting the NAS and see if you can access it using the ReadyNAS Remote Client. - Nhellie - thanks so much for the reply. Sorry about the multiple threads. You're right they are better consolidated but my impression was once a thread was more than an day or so old and had at least one reply then it goes by the wayside... I actually started with this thread a few days ago -> viewtopic.php?f=23&t=79493 but I added updates to it in the form of replies and then no one else posted a response - hence my impression. That said I'll stick with this thread.
I did try opening Port 6300 - I saw some other threads on that but I did not try rebooting the NAS after that. I see there are is an option in RAIDiator under the ReadyNAS remote feature to set a custom port. If I do open that port I will obviously need to have my router forward 6300 to the NAS as you say. Will that traffic be secure / encrypted as it is with HTTPS? I assume so since the whole idea of ReadyNAS Remote is to keep the connection secure. Could my NAS somehow be hacked thru 6300? Sorry I realize these are probably elementary questions.
Thanks so much,
- Charles - Ixa - Thanks for the FTP idea on this other thread - viewtopic.php?f=23&t=79529 I am consolidating here....
Nhellie - It looks like it's now working!!!!!! THANK YOU. It's a little odd tho... Here's what I did...
I set my router to forward TCP traffic on 6300 to my NAS. I then went into the NAS settings for ReadyNAS Remote - Advanced and checked the box to use a port and accepted the default 6300. Then I rebooted the NAS.
After Reboot it still did not work.
I then tried adding FTP service on Port 21 and added FTP to one of my shares. Then I rebooted again.
All of the sudden I could see the NAS thru the ReadyNAS Remote client but not just the one share enabled for FTP but all shares my user has access to (it did prompt me for my NAS user name and pw). So I went back into the NAS and turned FTP back OFF as a service and rebooted again. Once rebooted it's still working and I can see the shares.
So even tho it didn't seem to work after the first reboot it did seem to work after the 2nd (with FTP) and 3rd reboots (without FTP). I am now able to access from Windows - THANK YOU!!!
