- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI'm not a windows 8 fan myself, and wasn't meaning to imply that windows 8 was better than OSX. What I was saying is that Windows current market share still dictates that it gets top priority. That could of course change in the future.
And also I was saying that Apple has closed off their ecosystem, which makes the consumer's ability to integrate with other company's products more difficult than it should be. The iTunes server is one proof point. It simply should be possible for a linux box to easily stream multimedia to the built in players in iPad or iPhone. Apple intentionally prevents this. Difficulty of software implementation is a different subject altogether. The problem isn't that the SDKs aren't available at all, not that they are hard to use. The tools that do exist were all reverse engineered.
They're the biggest company in the world, they could easily release a version of the iTunes server for linux and a few other such things. Or at least a developer SDK.
I totally agree with this point.thomashcampbell wrote: ...My final point isn't that writing for Mac SHOULD be done but that it should NOT be ADVERTISED as being done. This app seems to work. At least I can log on now:

.....
Oh, and to the Windows guy, I was a Windows person for several years. But this Ballmer Windows 8 is the worst mess of software I've seen in 20 years (I didn't use Windows ME so I can't speak to it).
And you can say that Windows has more market share than Mac. IBM used to say the same thing about Windows. The world changes and right now it's changing towards Mac.
This isn't to say that can't be corrected. And as a 25 year software developer, it is infinitely easier for me to write software on a Mac than it is on Windows. (If I see that Windows "file in use" message one more time in my career I may scream).
That all being said, I'll admit that writing FOR Mac is a complete bear as is writing FOR iPhone. Objective C is the worst abomination of languages ever to curse our developer ecosphere in this stage of its evolution. But writing software in JAVA on a Mac is a complete dream compared to writing software in JAVA on Windows.
My final point isn't that writing for Mac SHOULD be done but that it should NOT be ADVERTISED as being done. If you have a product and you say you have Mac support then you better support it. Don't suck your customers in and then give them toss them a bone here and there. - salamander1Aspirant

It work perfectly fine on my iMac with 10.9.5 running on it. It will not launch an older laptop I have which I can not upgrade past 10.7.5, it brings up a crash window with a panic dump.
I could not find any information on software limitation with Readycloud App version 1.0.524.105 which shows as Beta.
It work perfectly on Mac OS X 10.10.1
Thank's for the link. - Maestro11AspirantNot sure if this is useful for everyone. I was just able to download the Desktop App using this link and that link was found on this follow pages.

Interesting. I was sure the Mac app wasn't available last I checked. It must have been made available just recently. Glad your issue is resolved. - joey911AspirantThe file I downloaded from
http://readycloud.netgear.com/client/index.html#page=apps
just now seems to work. v1.0.354
Desktop integration was what this post was about and my comments. All the other comments directed at me about features in the NAS unit were off topic for my purposes. My NAS works great. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIn 6.2.0 we added Personal Time Machine support and we also updated Netatalk (which provides AFP/Time Machine support) to the latest version available at the time (Netatalk 3.1.6).
The ReadyCloud for Mac app is not ready yet. Once it is available it will be posted on readycloud.netgear.com - joey911Aspirant> Because... hey.. who would have one of those in 2014?
Heh. Mine is from 2011 and 64-bit so... actually I have 3 and the old app didn't work and this new "Beta" doesn't work either.
> So, those are all lies.
I'm right there with you. I specifically got the ReadNAS because of the OS X functionality (and because it was Debian based) and well, that got me to filing a support ticket and coming here.
So Netgear, this might be of interest: http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resources/truth-advertising

Fix it or abandon it. Just do something other than ignoring it. The support tech kept telling me that engineering knew about it and it would be fixed with ReadyCloud. Well, that didn't happen. Authentication isn't hard. OS X apps aren't hard (obviously since there is an app store and this thing called Xcode). I've had to result to using rsync but it's not what I want. I want a desktop syncing app like Transporter, Dropbox, Owncloud, etc etc etc.
And no, I can't use own cloud to hook into the NAS because I'm already using own cloud for separate files on a remote system. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWindows OS market share remains much larger than OSX - end-user PC share is about 5% for various versions of OSX, about 92% for various versions of Windows, and 3% "other". http://www.netmarketshare.com/operating ... pcustomd=0
Though I agree that it would be best if applications were available for all major platforms out of the chute, I do see the business priorities also. Windows Phone support for most companies will lag well behind IOS and Android (if its done at all), and Mac support will often lag behind Windows.
[warning: Apple Bashing]
Apple products are a classic "walled garden". Your Mossberg link essentially says as much:thomashcampbell wrote: ...Get your act together NetGear. Fix the Mac application. You might want to watch this as Mac's are about to over take PC's.

People who buy Android tablets don't feel that their "logical choice" for a PC is limited to Chomebook. People who buy Windows phones don't feel that their only PC option is Windows either....I think that people who buy iPads use them and they reduce their use of the laptop, but they realize that at some point, you just have to go to the laptop and because they’re already in an Apple situation, the Mac is the logical one to go to
Hopefully Apple will get its act together, and allow other companies and open source services into its ecosystem. For instance, releasing itunes and icloud support for linux.[/Apple Bashing] - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe new ReadyCloud app for Mac is being developed and is not ready yet.
