readycloud software
If you invite someone to access a share remotely do they need to download any software to access it?
I have clients that are not very technical and while I would like to have my own nas setup to share files with them I don't want to make it complicated for them.
thanks

- EskenderNGNETGEAR Employee RetiredHello,
The advantage of using the ReadyCLOUD Desktop software is that you can setup automatic sync and backup of certain folders. If this is not needed and you just intend to grant access to your shares then you do not need to install any software. To access your data all the other user has to do is to log-in the readycloud.netgear.com website.
When following the invite link the user is automatically taken to that website and needs to set up a ReadyCLOUD account during the first visit which is very simple to do.

Eskender - EskenderNGNETGEAR Employee RetiredHello,
Just for confirmation, are you talking about a ReadyNAS OS 6 device?
Bye,
Eskender - lozdogAspirantsorry about the delayed reply...
I don't yet have a ready cloud capable NAS. I am on a NV+ v1 which isn't compatible with ready cloud. so I am thinking of upgrading. So I guess the answer is yes OS 6.
My use would be more along the lines of...
I have a client that needs to view the latest version of a video, and I have it on my NAS, then from what you are saying I would invite them and they would have to create an ready cloud user via the website, then they would only have access to the shares I have invited them too.
does that sound right to you?
I use dropbox at the moment to full fill this job but I wonder if it would be faster to have my NAS hooked up to my CPU so I can copy the video over via ethernet (or similar), there by saving the time it takes me to upload to the dropbox server. Am I barking up the wrong tree here?
thanks - EskenderNGNETGEAR Employee RetiredHi,
What you say is correct. This is how it would work with OS 6.
An even easier way, also possible with ReadyNAS OS 6 devices, would be to share that video by sending an email link. In this case the other user could access the file without the need to setup an account. However, anybody else receiving that link could also access that file until you un-share it or the maximum number of downloads allowed by you has been reached. Also, via email link you are only able to share files not folders. So, you can decide, simple sharing via link or sharing with dedicated ReadyCLOUD users.
And as you say, speed would be good as you will have LAN speed.
Bye,
Eskender - lozdogAspirantawesome, thanks for your info
