Readynas vs readycloud

Brand new readynas204. All you terrible documentation sbows browser screens with "netgear readycloud' in upper left corner. All i ever see is "netgear readynas". Cant get the single windows 7 pro 64-bit to connect unless i share all its drives or use windows backup to a folder on nas. What a crock - this thing is a pos and your documentation... cannot follow because neither of my readynas or pc behave even remotely similar to you pdfs or videos.

ReadyCLOUD has undergone some changes since it was first launched. So very old videos may be for the older versions of ReadyCLOUD.

Have you looked at the latest software manual (for ReadyNAS OS 6.4) and at the ReadyCLOUD FAQ ?

If you don't wish to use ReadyCLOUD you can use the local admin access instead.

I'm not certain I know what you are trying to achieve.  Are you wanting to use the NAS w/o ReadyCloud, or are you having trouble getting ReadyCloud to work?

Assuming the former, the usual way of accessing a network share is by entering \\nasname or \\nasipaddress into windows file explorer.  Have you tried that, and if so, what result are you getting?

Not sure exactly what you mean here. is "its drives" referening to the NAS or the Windows system? When you say "connect" do you mean accessing the NAS shares with file explorer, or do you mean something else?

I have the ReadyNAS OS 6.4 software manual and this is exactly what I am refering to.  Pull up page 243 and you will see the screen in the upper left of that page says NetGEAR ReadyCLOUD and there is an icon at the bottom to Get the ReadyCLOUD App for Backup and Sync.  My screen shows NetGear ReadyNAS (not ReadyCLOUD) and it does not have an icon for the ReadyCLOUD App.  Are you stating that ReadyNAS and ReadyCLOUD are the same thing?  Then where is the icon to get the ReadyCLOUD App?

I downloaded the ReadyCLOUD App from the internet as it was not available from my admin pages as stated above.  The download was 10MB and it loaded, the task manager indicated it was running, but here was not a system icon in the lower right as was indicated by the ReadyCLOUD App youtube video I watched.  After some research on this issue on the forum, I found a beta version.  It was 40+MB, just a simple upgrade I guess??  I downloaded and installed it.  It gives me as icon in the tray, but when I click it, I cannot log in.

I figured maybe I need to creat a user.  So I created a couple users, but never received an email for either to authenticate it, which is what some other people said; can't be a user until the user is authenticated through this email.

My goal here is really simple.  I simply want to sync folders on two Windows PCs to a folder on the ReadyNAS.  I don't need or want to sync the PCs to the same files, just trying to do a backup here without using windows backup.  The NAS is raided and I will back it up to a USB drive on a scheduled basis.  I want the PC's to push the files so I don't have to share their folders.

From all the documentation I read on the ReadyNAS before purchase, including the software manual you are referring to, this is a common thing that I should be able to do.

When you develop software by evolving it with users, you have to keep the documentation up to date.  Otherwise, the only users that are going to understand your software are the early adopters.  But early adopters have already purchased your system and they are not paying a license fee.  How do you expect to generated future business like this?

        Hi Jr12,

Can you provide links to the doc you are reviewing? Also please show screen shots so we can review. I'd like to see if we can resolve some of your concerns quickly.

Also can you check this article? We are working on updating it but it does have some helpful information about the ReadyCLOUD service.

  • Alex,

I am on your page "How do I back up from a Windows PC to my ReadyNAS OS 6 system uaing the ReadyCLOUD clinet".

I get through step 2 login only if I use my admin username and password.

At step 3, I get a message in the ReadyCLOUD popup in lower right corner of my screen "Currently you have no registered devices.

    Any ideas?
    Joel.
