You can start copying the data across, though of course at lower speeds than once the volume is redundant.
Firstly for the fan issue if you are not already running the latest 6.1.9 RC update to that and see if it helps.
You could perhaps see if a modified version of the file suggested here helps: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=411650#p411650
Note the paths might be different as you are using a 3rd party fan.
