10Gbps PCi express card

Hi

I would like to upgrade my RN516 and install a 10Gpbs Intel X540-T2 in my chassis.

Looks like there is pci express riser card needed. Is it possible to use an OTS version or is it Netgear specific (height)?

In the RN716 the riser card is attached to a sheet metal which is screwed onto the mainboard.

Is is possible to get that riser card/sheet metal combination from NetGear as spare part?

Best Regards

Jochen

NETGEAR does not have an available card that will fit currently and it is still not supported. You may be able to find a card that can be used with the slot but again it may need modification which will void the warranty and since it is not yet supported the chances of it working with the NAS is not guaranteed.

You can probably find a flexible cable extender that will make that card work, but supporting it is a problem not as easily solved.

      Hi Sandshark

      I have found this: netgear_readynas716_board.jpg

The only difference between RN516 and RN716 (other than cpu and memory) is the 10Gbps card. I bought a used model of the card visible in that picture. ReadyNAS should support it, shouldn't it?

I believe it will.  The 4220 uses a similar card, and I moved one to a 4200V2 converted to OS6 and it was recognized.  I didn't have a way to actually use it, but the OS just showed it like it belonged.  There certainly aren't different versions of the kernel compiled for units with and without, so the driver is going to be there.
