Added the 4th disks but it is not RAID1
Hello everybody,
I just added my fourth 3tb hdd to my Ultra4. It did the restripping for 20h or so. I have 3 other 3tb disk inside.
After the restripping it merge the data c: from 5400 gig to 8100 gig so instead of RAID1 what i wanted, it did something like RAID2 right ?
I want 5.4tb so 2hdd for the data and 2 other HDD for the redundance, so raid1 if i'm correct.
How can i do this now ?
Thanks a lot,

- what does your frontview > volumes say? x-raid 2?
if so, then you are essentially using raid-5, one disk space worth is used for parity.
see @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_5#RAID_5
The only way to switch to 'raid-1' is to factory default (you must back up all data, everything will be deleted), switch to 'flex-raid' mode using RAIDAR, then delete any default volume and configure the 4 disks however you wish. - cyseAspirantyes it says x-Raid-2
Why the 4th disk become RAID2/5 instead of Raid1 ? I thought it would be raid1 by default ...
So i have no other solution than saving everything then factory default ?
Thank you mister, - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredX-RAID2 is an improved version of X-RAID found on x86 and ARM ReadyNAS boxes. See X-RAID2 in Action
X-RAID2 is essentially RAID-5 as TeknoJnky mentioned.
Also as he mentioned you have to do a factory default to change RAID modes from X-RAID2 to Flex-RAID or vice versa. There's no other way to do it. - cyseAspirantThank you for your details ...
I'm saving all the data's now, i will have a long wait here ...
When i will do factory reset, does i need to do something particular like choosing a special menu to raid1 ?

Download RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads). After initiating the factory default the NAS will run a few tests and then a 10 minute window will open where you can open RAIDar, click setup and choose Flex-RAID. - cyseAspirantOhh ok thanks, didn't make the difference between raidar and radiator.
Thanks for such an answer,
i will try this when all the datas are saved. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
Yes. You have a 10 minute window to set the raid mode. This is done from your PC (using RAIDar). Keep in mind that your password goes back to factory default.cyse wrote: When i will do factory reset, does i need to do something particular like choosing a special menu to raid1 ?
Also, if you upload your old config, remember to reinstall your add-ons manually first. - cyseAspirantOhh yes thank you.
I forgot the factory password, what it is ?
Thanks, - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe FAQ is a great source of information: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/what_is_the_frontview_default_login_and_password_after_a_factory_default
- Before you go through all the hassle, why exactly do you think you need raid 1?
it is not safer than raid 5, and you can not use to 'backup' your data by removing the disks after the mirroring, and you get less storage space..
