Anyone using HGST 6TB HDDs in their ReadyNAS?

Wondering if anyone's using the HGST 6TB Deskstar NAS HDD (model H3IKNAS600012872SN) in their ReadyNAS — and more specifically, a 314?

These run faster (7200 vs. 5400), have a higher cache (128MB vs. 64MB), get better reviews, and are about $20 cheaper than the WD Reds. They also feature rotational vibration sensors.

So I'm curious to hear others' experience.

  • I've never used them, and hopefully someone who has will reply.

Generally, posters here who have used HGST drives seem quite happy with them.  There are very few problems reported with them.  And the model you are considering is on the HCL for the RN314, so using it won't create any support issues.

FWIW, the HCL still lists the manufacturer as "Hitachi", though the WDC acquisition was completed in March 2012...

I checked the HCL, and the issue for me was that the model number differs (Hitachi HDN726060ALE610 vs. HGST H3IKNAS600012872SN). Is it definitely still the same drive?

      • H3IKNAS600012872SN is listed also.
Hitachi Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS600012872SN 6 TB 6Gb/s 128 MB Yes 3 This disk should be compatible based on the test result of another disk in the same series from the disk manufacturer.
