APC UPS Client Add-on or Widget
** Moved from Developement Forum **
Hey guys, would it be possible to load a linux base client that would work with the APC Net Manager?
I have a TCP/IP based connection to my APC UPS and would like it to work with my NV+. But so far, the only IP that can be used with the Frontview is to monitor another NAS.
If this doesn't already exist, I think it would be a great add-on or widget for the community.
Does any body else think this a good idea?

- dlipowskyAspirantActually the NAS can monitor another system that is running NUT, it doesn't have to be another NAS (though that is how FrontView is worded). Currently my NAS is monitoring another server that is running NUT and is working fine. You may be able to do something similar.
Since NUT already supports an APC UPS it probably makes more sense to stick with this. - AlienAspirantThank you for your response, but I invested in a TCP/IP Network Management card to eliminate the need for a pc to be on all of the time.
Can NUT be configured on the NAS to communicate with the APC Network Management card on my UPS?
Seems like this shouldn't be too difficult, even if it needs to be done throught the shell. Of course, being able to do this from Frontview would rock!
Anyhow, kinda desperate on this issue. Willing to manually configure files, if needed.
Just need some expert advice!
BTW: this is a 2200 kva ups which powers all network, including the NAS. Just would feel better if the NAS would "hear" the shutdown command anounced by the Network Management Card that is installed in the UPS. - dlipowskyAspirantI'd check the NUT HCL to see if your UPS is listed and go from there.

If you're referring to the APC SNMP management card, there appears to be drivers available for it. If you're comfortable with this you should be able to make this work far quicker than waiting for them to deliver an APC add on. - magi1AspirantThis is great info for me, because I've been wanting the same thing -- have the UPS provide info to more than one machine which is plugged into it. In my case, the ReadyNAS is always on, so it may as well be the one to be the UPS server and provide that info to the Windows box which is occasionally on.
So in the Power tab in Frontview, I checked "Enable network sharing of attached UPS" and hit apply. I then installed winnut15 on the Windows box, pointed it at the name of the ReadyNAS, told it to reconnect, and...
...it does connect, and sees the model name and serial number of my UPS so I know it really did connect, but the "UPS on line" box is not checked, and all the gauges read at 0. Oh well. I wonder if the problem is on the winnut side or the ReadyNAS side. The ReadyNAS has accurate statistics for the UPS, and I'm guessing that sharing that info would work to another ReadyNAS, so it's probably winnut that's confused. - schalliolAspirantI really want some way to get my NAS to read from the standard output from my APC Web/SNMP Management Card. This is something I've wanted for over a year, and I know that I'm perhaps one of few that need this, but I would love to have this kind of functionality. Now that we have SSH Root functionality, I figure there must be a way, although I'm not sure what it is.
- darkroom081AspirantI have two APC SU3000NETs with the network management cards. I would LOVE to have my two 1000s work with them directly like my Sun servers do.

NAME
powernet - Driver for APC SNMP UPS equipment
DESCRIPTION
This driver partially implements APC Powernet SNMP MIB, and allows NUT
UPSD to talk to APC SNMP-capable hardware.
SUPPORTED HARDWARE
APC AP9606 Web/SNMP management card
APC AP9605 SNMP management card (as reported by Chuck Fee)
Perhaps other AP96xx cards and APC SNMP-capable hardware - nycveloAspirantWe use big APC UPSs here -- SmartUPS 5000 XLs -- and already have a server running apcupsd to control them. AFAIK NUT doesn't support these so it isn't a good option for us.
We'd buy more ReadyNASs if they supported apcupsd instead of/in addition to NUT.
Thanks in advance for any clues on getting the ReadyNAS to support an APC UPS environment. - lonnie2AspirantI want to cast another vote for supporting APC UPS's with network cards. (ie. no USB support)
This is very important to me. - galphanetAspirantAlso very important for me, I've buyed the 1100, this is a profesionnal device, so PLEASE support profesionnal equipments !
NUT supports the APC SNMP card...
