ATA error count has increased.....
Hi,
i have a problem with error log...i get this erroe every 2 days:
ATA error count has increased in the last day. Disk 1: Previous count: 108 Current count: 114 ATA error count has increased in the last day. Disk 2: Previous count: 108 Current count: 114 ATA error count has increased in the last day. Disk 3: Previous count: 108 Current count: 114 ATA error count has increased in the last day. Disk 4: Previous count: 108 Current count: 114 Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk.
it is possible that all the disks are damaged? are new, have 4 months...
ReadiNAS NV+ with Raidiator 4.1.8
Thanks

Well it is possible - the drives are identical, could even be from the same manufacturing lot, and are running in the same chassis so the environment and usage is identical too. Drive failures in raid arrays are often closely spaced (most of reliability predictions you google don't take the near-identical environment into account). So you should be making backups regularly.exalab wrote: Hi,

What drives are you using? Are they on the HCL? There was a similar problem a while back with the WD 2TB drives. Every time the NAS was booted up (or the drives came out of sleep) the ATA count went up a little, and was always identical on all four drives. That was fixed at some point with a RAIDiator update (don't recall exactly when), but it is conceivable you are seeing something similar. So if you have the sleep timer enabled (or are frequently rebooting the NAS) you might try leaving everything going 24x7 and see if the errors stop.- PapaBear1ApprenticeAnother part of the environment the disks have experienced is the shipment to you. If all four were in the same box, then they were subjected to the same TLC or rough handling during the shipment.
I agree with StephenB that you should maintain a current and complete backup at all time, but especially when there is a risk of a multiple disk failure. A multiple disk failure will create havoc with your array and may result in the loss of all data. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe issue with the WD disks was addressed in RAIDiator 4.1.7. Did you only just update to RAIDiator 4.1.8 exalab?
- exalabAspirantYes i have raidiator 4.1.8....
All disks are identical, Western digital WD5000AAKS, are not in hcl why I did not find compatible discs...you can give that error because they are not in hcl?
I checked all the disks with the WD diagnostic software and have no problem, even in NAS, SMART status is ok
I think mdgm wants to know when you upgraded to 4.1.8, and what you were running before. Also, if the messages started or stopped around the time of the upgrade.exalab wrote: Yes i have raidiator 4.1.8....
I was asking about the HCL, only because Netgear support probably won't help if the drives aren't on the HCL
Again, this is worth a try:So if you have the sleep timer enabled (or are frequently rebooting the NAS) you might try leaving everything going 24x7 and see if the errors stop. - exalabAspirantI had the same error even before updating the firmware, I upgraded just to see if the problem would be solved...
- exalabAspirantThere is an error in the previous post ... I had not set the correct date. I solved with firmware upgrade ( 4.1.6 -> 4.1.8 ).
After the update, I've had no errors
Thank's all
