Backup-UPS RS1000 & XS-900 Dropping Into Battery State Often
I have two ReadyNAS units installed in my small town (pop. 1500 in Oregon) and both are hooked up to APC USB UPS units. For the past few months, they've been dropping into battery mode for about 2 sec...

This does seem to indicate a power problem. If the NAS units are at different locations then both locations could have power problems that are not necessarily the same.
Cheaper UPS units go onto battery when a power problem is detected. More expensive units (e.g. APC SMART-UPS) can filter out bad power and only go onto battery when things get really, really bad (e.g. when there's a power failure). I would suggest trialling the use of a SMART-UPS at one of the locations. When purchasing the SMART-UPS remember that the UPS needs to have a USB port (serial-to-usb won't work).
I recommend using Smart-UPS units in business critical applications regardless of whether you have power problems or not.
