cannot access eSATA drives

Hello, I have an external eSATA drive connected to my ReadyNAS RN204 and although the web access sees the driv and it shows the volume information, I cannot access it in order to save files to it...also on the device screen it does not show up at all.

I believe I have it set to JBOD(?) so it does not get added as a RAID drive.

Any ideas?

Regards!

You will have to create a volume or use it for expansion in order to be able to use the disk space, it is currently inactive (Grayed out) It will also not show on the device list under Windows, only on the ReadyNAS Admin page where it also shows the EDA500 expansion chassis.

I suggest creating a new volume out of it by selecting the disk and create new volume as JBOD see Volume Expansion info. See Create Volume on ReadyNAS OS 6 for creating a volume on the ReadyNAS OS 6 system.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards

If your intent is to use it as a backup drive, eSATA is not the best way to go.  Now that it is set up as a volume, it works for the NAS but it's not going to be readable on a PC.  And removing/replaciong or moving a volume from one NAS to another without first properly dismounting it is not recommended.  So, if the NAS has an issue and you need to access the backup without the NAS, you'll have problems.

If you're just using it as extra storage, to remain permanently connected, then just ignore me.
