Change Boot Order/Priority ReadyNas

Hello, I'm trying to install Unraid on my ReadyNas instead of ReadyNas OS6, I've found some information online which suggests that I need to change the boot order via bios so that my ReadyNas will boot from the usb drive in the front port.

I've installed the bootable unraid onto a USB and plugged into front of the ReadyNas, I've then connected my ReadyNas to HDMI and I can see the terminal on screen.

This is where I'm stuck, where would I go about changing the boot priority/order.

Thanks

  • Just like on a PC -- via the BIOS settings at boot.

You are lucky to have a ReadyNAS with a video port.  Most don't, which will be a major stumbling block for most owners trying to install an alternate OS.

I've connected the RN316 to HDMI, then i've turned it on, this page comes up on the screen which I can login to:

I'm not sure whether this is the right place, i've then entered the username and password and i've been told to try pushing F1, F2 or the DEL key, these don't do anything and I don't think i'm doing this in the correct place.

Update: You have to power on the ReadyNAS, right after pressing the power button, start pushing the DEL key on the keyboard, i pretty much did it repeatedly, the device will output the BIOS screen through the HDMI

I have read that there is a place in the BIOS to disable the flash, which you have to do in addition to changing the boot order, so it won't revert back to using the flash.  But I don't recall what the setting was called and I don't have a similar NAS currently set up to look for it.  On units with a DOM for flash, you can simply remove the DOM.  But on those with soldered-in flash, you don't have that option.
