Connecting 2 x NV+ to 1 x UPS

I have 2 x NV+ v1 and want to connect them both to the same UPS but my concern is that only one of the NV+ can connect via USB to the UPS. SO what I'm wondering is how to set it up so both NAS will work properly with the UPS and detect it without being connected via USB.

  • there are a links on a few posts eleswhere on the forum, but I always revert to the following link;
    http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=466 (also shows how to protect additional pc's)
    it has a screenshot for the 1st unit connected via USB, the 2nd unit is fairly straight forward.

    the question using this method though has to be- is your switch that would carry the signal...also protected via a UPS?
    if not - there's many inexpensive ways to overcome the situation (customising a trailing lead with an IEC connector etc)

    Yes, the switch also needs to be protected by the UPS.

    The switch can be left to shutdown when the UPS battery runs out but it does need to get its power via the UPS.
  • Very good point about the switch! I've put the switch on UPS power, I've connected all Infrant to a UPS and then have 2 of them pointing at the one Infrant with a USb plugged into the UPS.

    thanks for the feedback that you've successfully set it up.
    another trick to test all is well...is to power one (or all) of your remote Readynas's directly via normal power sockets, then turn off the power to the UPS. eventually the switch will drain the power and invoke the critical alarm signal, if all is well, the readynas's should shut down (even though they are technically on mains power!)
    to speed this up you could tell your master readynas to switch off at 90% ups power.

    Ideally you'd test the shutdown with the actual settings you plan to use.

    The best way to speed it up is to plug in a lamp [or some other suitable load) to drain the battery on the UPS at a more normal pace. Switches don't take much power, so could take a very long time if that is the only load.
