Discovery required every time then only access to Admin after upgrade from Readycloud

Discovery required every time then access to Admin page only

Hi there,

Via web portal on local computer I have to do the discovery process each and every time I want to see the NAS. It is not remembered or saved for future logins.

I am only able to view the NAS via the ADMIN page view once "discovered". So I cannot see and get the offer to obtain the App for viewing which I had done previously (now uninstalled)

When logging in and before "discovery" there is a very brief flash of a page with the "Get the app in bottom left" then the page changes to  "Currently you have no registered devices". If I Press Discover I can see my NAS via the Admin page.

I can currently see and access the NAS on my local computer (Which as just upgraded to Windows 10 from 7) via the file manager or whatever it is called (Windows Explorer version of old)

On my remote computer, Windows 7, when signing in I get the "Currently you have no registered devices"

Help would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • Ok So I Think I have solved the issues of a) Having to discover every time and b) loss of Access to Admin page (presenting as offline)

After Upgrade to MyNETGEAR.com account and software 6.5.0 this list is a summary of what eventually worked for me

    1) Bind to one email address rather than leave that to later

[If you want to link your ReadyCLOUD account to this MyNETGEAR.com account, click the Bind button, enter your MyNETGEAR.com password in the pop-up window, and click the Continue button.]

    2) uncheck (or make sure unchecked) USE PROXY Server in Admin Page, Cloud, ReadyCloud, Settings, -Uncheck use Proxy Server (and ignore your previous Username and Password)

Once this is done ensure your computer does not remember, what is now, your old sign in for ReadyCLoud

    3) Power Down and Restart NAS

    4) After restart and you cant get into Admin Page leave your accessing the NAS admin page for 12hrs+ in case its busy backing up or syncing or something

(Previously I had been logging into Admin page using both email and password and then when prompted (presumably by the Proxy Server) my old username and password pre upgrade before I unchecked the Proxy server)

Some points may be blindingly obvious to many, but some of us struggle with the  obvious and are not helped by Windows10 managing to upgrade in an ungraded moment in the middle of all this. It has taken may many and I hope this post will help or set in the right direction at least one person.

Thanks to thoes who have posted on this thread each gave me more insight

    Regards and Good Luck

    Mike

I am having the same problem and I followed the instructions.   It worked before in my ReadyCloud.  Now I have to ReDiscover everytime.  This is definetly an issue with Netgear.  I am so frustrated with Netgear I am almost going to switch to a different company.  Get with it already.

Have you read the ReadyCLOUD to MyNETGEAR Single Sign-On FAQ ? ~Yes but went through again

also followed link for How do I upgrade my ReadyCLOUD account if I have a MyNETGEAR.com account?. This time tried the Bind option

[If you want to link your ReadyCLOUD account to this MyNETGEAR.com account, click the Bind button, enter your MyNETGEAR.com password in the pop-up window, and click the Continue button. ]

This stopped me having to Discover each time and now I can see the NAS however I cant access it. : growing Blue line with "No volumes or USB Devices" shown.

Went through the What should I do if I upgrade my ReadyCLOUD account to a MyNETGEAR account but I do not see my ReadyNAS systems in ReadyCLOUD?

If your ReadyNAS systems are not listed in the ReadyCLOUD portal after you complete the upgrade of your account, double check the local Admin page for the following items:

      • Make sure that ReadyCLOUD is enabled. YES. Noted Old username and password still shows
      • Make sure that your ReadyNAS system is connected to the Internet. Found Green Tick Internet available and Red X services off line
      • Check the DNS settings on your ReadyNAS system to make sure that it can resolve domain names, for example netgear.com. Don't know how to do this
      • Try leaving ReadyCLOUD from the Local Admin page, and rejoining your ReadyNAS using the MyNETGEAR login information Tried, no difference

I cant see how to make the services " on line" when I go into Cloud on Admin page  via inputting  198.168.etc  Initially the setting is "off" and text greyed then the setting switches to "on"  but services are offline Red X seen above

Tried looking it up and saw a post about unchecking USE PROXY. Tried this and now I cannot access my Admin via 198.168etc   !!!  After Multiple requests for password it is now saying Admin Page is off line. Tried switching off and on NAS to find cant access via 198.168etc BUT I can access via email sign in and see folders and files of NAS!

So now I need to get the Admin page back on line so i can re check the Use Proxy to see of this is eth cause But How?

        Hello Mike101,

Are you trying to access the admin page via http:// followed by the LAN IP address of the NAS? That is how it should be, the username by default is admin and password is password, if it is not taking the word password for password then you must have changed it.

When you are using a computer that is connected to the same network where the NAS is and try to get to readycloud.netgear.com, the login here is the myNetgear account (upgraded from ReadyCloud account), this has a way to get to the admin page too, that is by getting to Manage tab.
