Do ReadyNAS Ultra systems have PFC?
The specs for Ultra NAS power supplies (PSU) don't say whether they have power factor correction (PFC) or not. Neither are there any articles from NetGear about what type of UPS are compatible or not with different NAS models... esp whether the expensive sine-wave UPS models are needed, and whether the CyberPower models are compatible/recommended (uses a modified waveform). I'm expecting that the NAS OS needs to know how to talk to the UPS, so certified or recommended UPS models seems a pertinent topic.
At a minimum listing those PSU with PFC in your model specs would be a start going forward if in fact they do have it. I know that APC says using sine wave UPS models with PFC supplies becomes more of a requirement for PSU over 500w (white paper at their site), and most (all?) of your Ultra model PSUs are at 300 and below, so perhaps the commonly used non-true sine wave APC models are OK at this time.
For reference, see: APC App Note #147: http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/RMUZ ... _R1_EN.pdf

- btaroliProdigyI was going to point you to http://www.readynas.com/?cat=37 but now I see that the USB UPS link there simply points to the UPS forum viewforum.php?f=87. That's an unfortunate turn. :-\
I've never heard of anyone refer to the waveform being a factor, but maybe someone else will know for sure. Best response i found there, with relation to the question of compatibility was viewtopic.php?f=87&t=58566#p329361 - jmoomawAspirantI should have included some background on this. I added a link to a white paper. I'm sure Google will bring up other articles.
The topic of needing sine-wave UPS for modern PSUs was news to me until just recently. I have to assume there are a lot of folks out there who haven't run into this yet. In this case, NetGear hasn't addressed it either.
