Duo Memory upgrade

Hi there,

I see from the messages here that the compatibility list for the duo is no longer maintained but can *anyone* recommend which memory to use to upgrade to 1GB?

TIA

Ben

  • Hi There,

Definitely a v1 Duo. I haven't taken it apart yet to see what the ram looks like, but I understand that's fairly straightforward. I just wanted to make sure I can get a gig of ram that's definitely compatible before I continued.

    Thanks

    Ben
  • Unfortunately the ram that is available today is like playing roulette. They used to maintain an HCL for memory, but the manufacturers of the modules started changing components without changing model numbers with the result that the older versions would work but the newer versions of the same model number did not. If you are using your Duo as a straight file server, you may not find any real impact. I had an NV+ and had the strange circumstance that the 1GB memory module from an HP laptop, circa 2004, worked just fine. I noticed no impact on file transfer speeds. When my new laptop died and I had to go back to the old one, I reverted back to the original 256MB module that came with the NV+.
  • Ive got a crucial 1GB stick from my old Duo v1 that I would be willing to sell to you. Has worked perfectly for about 2 years now.

I'm putting the old girl on craigslist, but someone may as well benefit from the upgrade.

  • I would like to upgrade my Readynas Duo V1 from 256MB to 1024MB, can someone please advise where I can find the HCL?

Memory upgrades are no longer supported. Take a look at recent posts in the Community Hardware Compatibility List forum

It's hard to say now. Three days ago I put Corsair VS1GSDS400 into my Duo (SPARC) and it works like a charm.
As you can read on this forum there are many people unsuccessful with this chip and also many happy ones.
It seems the best option is to make sure before you buy, that you can return the chip in case it didn't work and then you try.
  • Ok, so it was a honeymoon (shortened to one week this time) and after that I could see that there are problems with the NAS. I put back original 256 MB chip into my Duo and problems are gone. Luckily there was no problem to return the Corsair chip to the vendor.

Could you post a direct link ?
  • I posted on another similar thread (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=67380) that Corsair Value Select 1GB vs1gsds333 which other reported as being fine did not work on my Duo v1 (I don't know the CL settings of the module, they were not written).
