Duo/NV+ V2 Auto-shutdown on UPS low-battery
I have a NV+ V1 (Sparc) which is giving me headaches trying to back it up. Therefore I'm looking at purchasing a Duo V2 or NV+ V2 to serve as my new home NAS. However I was looking at the comparison chart for the home/prosumer NASes and noticed that the Duo V2 and NV+ V2 are listed as not having "Auto-shutdown on UPS low-battery". I also checked the software manual available online and it discussesthe Duo/NV+ V2 having UPS monitoring and auto shutdown.
Which is correct? (RAIDiator 5.3 SW Manual_5Sep12.pdf vs ReadyNAS_Comparison_Home_v218-57079.pdf)
If I have a Duo/NV+ V2 and a NV+ V1 powered by the same UPS how do I shut both down on UPS low-battery?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe Duo/NV+ v2 will shutdown if connected directly to a UPS. It does not support the network sharing of a UPS.
You're better off going with a ReadyNAS Ultra/Ultra Plus/Pro Series device. Faster than the Duo/NV+ v2 and has lots more features.
Perhaps your issues backing up the NV+ v1 would be resolvable.
How are you trying to backup the NV+ v1? Using Frontview backup? If so, what are the backup job settings?
Are you backing up to a USB disk? Another NAS? Some place else? - drjasonharrisonAspirantThanks mdgm.
The problem I'm having backing up may be due to the NV+v1 running an older version of the firmware (an update requires moving all of the data off of it), the external USB enclosures (NexStar MX with both Raid 1 and JBOD). When I use rsync on the NV+v1 to backup the c volume I either run out of space on the USB enclosures, or the USB enclosures "randomly" unmount. Both enclosures are formated ext3 using Frontview. So rather than "fight" the Sparc based NV+v1 to the death, I bought the Duo V2 and will migrate everything to it. Then I'll upgrade the NV+v1, see how it behaves, how the external enclosures behave on the Duo and decide if I want to use the NV+v1 as the backup target. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of RAIDiator is on the NV+ (v1)? Firmware updates leave data intact though it is wise to have an up to date backup before doing a firmware update (though you should update your backup regularly regardless of whether you do a firmware update).
Do remember you can't share a UPS with a Duo v2 and a NV+ (v1) currently due to the Duo v2 not supporting UPS sharing. That was one of the reasons why I suggested the Ultra as a better choice than the Duo (v2).
