One option is to power down the NAS and test the disks with SeaTools. Label the disks by slot as you remove them.
RAIDar 6.5 should give you an option to download the NAS logs and run diagnostics. Have you tried that? The current version of RAIDar is here: https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads

Ok when I try to get logs via Raidar I get attached image - 'Healthy' status doesn't make sense. Display NAS says 'READYNAS is in safe mode'. Can hear clicking / beeping from unit.
Need to locate caddy to do Seatools drive checks. Will revert on outcome.

RAIDar should download a zip file. Is it doing that?

This is quite odd. The screen saying the NAS is in safe mode and the RAIDar status don't seem to jive at all. With that RAIDar status, you won't be able to download logs (if there even are any accessable).
The first thing is to identify the bad drive and try booting with just the others. Hopefully, the NAS will then be able to sort things out. I'm suspecting that one bad drive is creating problems across the entire SATA system.
