Hard Drive Question
I have a ReadyNas Duo and I want to purchase a ReadyNas Ultra. Can I take the hard drive from my Duo and put it in the Ultra and keep all of the data on it?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredNo. The RAID format is different. You will need to transfer your data across your network.
Have you considered the new ReadyNAS 312 and 314 which will be available soon? - cat509TutorI hadn't heard of them. Would you know if I could I run plex media server on it? Also, could I use the hard drive from my duo on it?
- Though the ultra is (in my view) still a nice choice, you should probably also consider the RN314 launched earlier this month. That will also wipe the drive, so there's no change there. It is a bit more than the ultras (which are heavily discounted at the moment as retailers are clearing inventory for the new models).
You can preorder in the US (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... as&x=0&y=0)
There's also some information here: http://support.netgear.com/product/RN31400 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPlex Media Server comes pre-installed on both the RN312 and the RN314.
- cat509TutorThanks for the info Stephen and mdgm! Cool that it has plex media server pre installed!. I'd just have to transfer the data through my network which might take some time. Mine's 3 years old so probably time to get a new one before the hard drive crashes anyway.
- ihartleyTutorDon't condemn a working hard drive!! As long as the SMARTs are OK, it might go another 5 years. Or crash tomorrow, just like a new one could! The MTBF quoted by most mfrs is rubbish, and in any case is usually mistakenly read as "how long the drive should last" - when it really means "half your drives will have failed by now". ;-)
