I really did not deserve this.
Started my nas journey with an Ultra6. Great Box and never had 1 issue since purchasing it. Its still going strong.
Thought I'd upgrade to a Pro6 but the experience has nearly killed me.
First box purchased. [case# 17129469] ended with an RMA and a replacement box.
Second box. [case# 17158635] which went to [case# 17176170] which went to [case#17213486] which went to [case#17233782] can anyone see a pattern here.
After several weeks of frustration the nas is working fine, however I cannot give the nas a hostname. It just comes back with "unsuccessful setting host name" which is somewhat tiresome.
To save me another case # does anyone have a solution I can implement?
Support is just killing me.

Is there any chance at all that this problematic 2nd box is protected differently from your Ultra6--i.e. no UPS or something? It seems you are having REALLY unusually bad luck with the Pro6!!! - naspro6AspirantHowdi maxblack,
nope, is the short answer.
The nas is working as intended since the last case# was remedied, with 1 remaining exception, which is setting a hostname.
i am just dreading jumping through all the support hopes to get a result if my previous case#'s are anything to go by. - chirpaLuminaryHave you ever done a Backup Config restore on the system with problems setting hostname?
- amac27AspirantHi naspro6,
can you download a backup config and check if there is a hostname file in the /etc folder? If there is none you can create a "hostname" file (without extension) that contains a text "<host name of your nas>". Then upload the backup config back to the NAS. - chirpaLuminaryIt would probably be easier if he just mentioned what hostname he wants, and we make the zip (with just that file in it) to have him restore, less chances of error that way. No sense trying to overwrite other files, which may cause other issues. And if he does not save it in UNIX format, but instead DOS format, more issues will arise later when trying to change it again.
- naspro6AspirantThanks chirpa and amac27,
I downloaded the config file and created a "hostname" file as there was none.
All good.
Thank you for the assistance.
Hopefully that puts an end to my issues.
Fingers crossed. - chirpaLuminaryCan you answer my previous question on the previous page. Have you tried config restore before this? Even though its fixed now, it would be nice to know what caused it originally.
- naspro6AspirantHowdi chirpa,
No restores have been done by me, or backups of this box for that matter till just now.
I am not sure what the L3 techs did in the process of getting to where I am now either. My box was in "tech support" mode for a total of 2 weeks.
It remains a mystery.
I notice that when I restart the nas now it hangs for about 2 mins with "installing addon" displayed. This is a new feature as well.
It does eventually boot through, but seems to have some kind of issue with booting cleanly.
Any tips to remedy this one?
Maybe disable all the addons there is only 3, (istatd, plex, readynas remote) and see if it boots cleanly.
The nas seems to be working just fine other than this. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPlease download and install latest Plex add-on. In an old version of the addon the line at the end of the install script to remove the installation files was commented out which caused Plex to be re-installed each boot. This is fixed in the latest version of the addon.
- naspro6AspirantHi mdgm,
I have version v0.9.5.2-7a18da4-x86 installed.
Is there a later version than this?
I'll just download and re-install it again to be sure.
