Incorrect product description

I've very recently just purchased a ReadyNAS duo v2 and would like to express my disappointment in the product.
After wanting to purchase a ReadyNAS for a couple of years now I was excited to finally get to the point where I could afford one and doubly excited since this was a new version I was purchasing.

The product description on various websites where this unit is on sale clearly states the features of this device. The problem is, once purchased and set up, we realise it turns out the product description is infact inaccurate. Described features such as BitTorrent Client, FTP services, Mobile App connectivity for IOS, (I'm also unsure how true Eye-Fi compatibility is either as there's no mention of them in Frontview) simply aren't possible with this device. At least not straight out of the box or without some level of higher computing knowledge using command line in an OS such as Linux.

I understand that this is a relatively "new" version of the product, built on a new architecture (ARM) but would like to expect that product descriptions don't undermine a consumers expectations and should therefore remain accurate. Surely this is key to business, to satisfy your customers? Sorry to have to rant away, but this is the feeback forum, and thought I should give my feedback and share my experience as a general member of the public who purchased your product in good faith.

I bought a ReadyNAS Duo v2 in part because the specs indicated that it can be used as a print server..... This is a problem for me.
Are there any plans to add that functionality?

I find myself in the same position; having spent days transferring data to the ReadyNAS Duo I then sought advice on configuring the printer server from links in firmware 5.3.5 to find confirmation in
[http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=5029] "Can I attach two or more USB Printers to the ReadyNAS?" to which the answer is "Yes, you can attach multiple USB printers to the ReadyNAS."

    It wasn't until I found

Sorry for all the confusion regarding the print server on Duo/NV+ v2. The print server feature will not be enabled on these products.

that I realised I had wasted both time and money on this device.

If that is the formal response from Netgear, then this is the first and last device I shall ever buy from that manufacturer.

I expect a response to this posting that is less dismissive about what amounts to blatant mis-selling.

Just one more example of American corporate behaviour having an adverse effect on the British!

That FAQ entry was written before the introduction of the v2 products. The FAQ is badly in need of lots of updates.

The Comparison Chart clearly shows that the Duo v2 does not have the print server functionality.
  • While this is conjecture on my part, I believe it was done not to remove functionality, but the fact that so many of the "smart" functions of today's printers interfere with the print server. The older "dumb" printers that acted simply as a printer without sending any information back to the PC seemed to work great. The multi-function printers do not seem to work except as printers, no scanning funtion seemed to work. Then couple in the fact that network capable printers are now so common even on the low end printers, it no longer seems worth the hassle of trying to provide the function only to have an issue when other printers worked, but the one particular one the customer had did not.

I would not be surprised to see the print server disappear from the x86 line when their version of RAIDiator is updated.

FWIW - Newegg has a Samsung Wireless (no ethernet) Monochrome Laser printer for $62 delivered. They have a similar Brother with wireless and ethernet for $90.
