Netgear ReadyNAS 202 - RAID 1 with mixed drives (SSHD and HDD)
Hi all,
A bit of context first:
I currently have an old DNS-323 NAS and one of my drives failed. Since I'll have to change it I'm thinking about changing the whole hardware (NAS and drives) to something more "contemporary". I use NAS as a mix of media storage, using PLEX to access videos, and lightroom to access and edit photos (RAW images); and backup, so I need both performance and reliability. After looking and the cost/benefit of all NAS available, I figured out the ReadyNAS 202 looks like a good option.
Now the doubt:
Since I want to use RAID 1 on this setup, will I benefit from mixing a more speedy driver (SSHD or SSD) with a normal HDD? is it possible to configure the speedy drive to be the main storage (the one that communicates with the netword) and leave the HDD drive as the mirror? Will this improve the performance in comparison with a 2xHDD setup?
Thanks!
Daniel

Hello dakial,
I think combination of SSD and HDD would work if they have the same size. I haven't tried, though. You use XRAID (automatically RAID1 for 2-bay NAS) for creating volume, 2nd disk inserted mirrors the disk 1.
