Newbie wants advice over choice.

Hi,  I think I need to get a diskless ReadyNas 212, but I would welcome some advice. My immediate need is for 8Tb of capacity, so I would understand that means buying 2 x 8Tb disks shown on the C...

    There was an upper limit of 16 TiB in the firmware, but that was removed quite a while ago. The RN100 and RN200 series can handle larger volumes than 16 TB.  Though resync times will go up as the volume size increases.

    More bays do make it easier to expand.  Though you might want to leave an empty slot.  That's the cheapest way to expand later.  Maybe 3x6TB?

     

    The units will run cool if you use energy-efficient disk drives (for instance WD Reds or Seagate Ironwolf).  7200 RPM drives will run hotter.

    I have two units (RN102 and RN202) with 8TB+6TB jbod.  That's using a WD80EFRZ and a WD60EFRX.  Current temps are 30C/26C
