NV+ dead and need to replace
I have a NV+ with three disks in XRaid format. We had a lightening strike and the NAS is dead (despite whole house surge protector AND local surge protector...). If I buy a new ultra 4 plus can I just insert the disks into it and have my data preserved or will I need to reformat and start over?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserLightening can be nasty - if you have coax TV/broadband, it can enter that way, and bypass the surge protectors. You might check on your surge warranties though, sometimes they cover damaged equipment to some degree.
The raid formats are not compatible, and the OS partitions aren't either. So you will need to start over.
The ultra should wipe the disks, though some have reported seeing "corrupt root" instead. Deleting the partitions (for instance from Windows) would prevent that. BTW, you might also want to test the disks, as they may be dead too. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou would need to get another NV+ (v1 - silver chassis) to be able to migrate your array to another NAS.
If you like instead you could try data recovery using a PC: Mounting Sparc-based ReadyNAS Drives in x86-based Linux
Or if you have a good backup or the data is not important you could simply do what Stephen suggested above. - JDJeffAspirantThank you.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredActually as well as the NV+ (v1 - silver chassis) migration to other 4-bay Sparc models (e.g. 1100) would be possible.
