ReadyCloud vs Admin Page?

I have a ReadyNAS 102 with two 4TB drives installed. I bought the setup 5 years ago and attempted to set it up with a direct connection to my computer but never got it up and running - and so have not been using it. Now, with an internet connection through a Verizon router, I've just reset the machine to factory defaults and am trying to complete the setup.

- I've linked my ReadyCLOUD account to my Netgear account, following the instructions Netgear provides. (I had used ReadyCloud five years ago before giving up on the initial setup.)

- ReadyCLOUD did not initially "discover" the reset ReadyNAS after connecting the two accounts.

- After searching for solutions I opened up the ADMIN page (I had to use an incognito web page to do that) using the IP address of the machine, and then was able to do basic things like change the name of the device and provide notification info.

- I was then able to open the ADMIN page in a normal browser window (Chrome), and the info on the machine appeared normal (see attached file with screenprints).

- However, when I sign into ReadyCLOUD, even though the machine appears with its new name, it is shown as "offline" (see attached file).

Question 1: What do I need to do to have ReadyCloud see the machine as "online"?

Question 2: When on the ADMIN page I am not able to update the firmware. I start the process, but then get a window with a warning triangle (also in attached file).

Thanks!  Bruce

  • ReadyCloud requires much newer firmware than 6.1.8.

I suggest upgrading to at least 6.9.6 (though I'd personally go with 6.10.3).

Either way, you cannot do this in one step.  You need to update first to 6.2.5, then to 6.5.2, and finally to 6.9.6 or 6.10.3   Disable Antivirus (if it is running) before you begin.

Given that your firmware is 6 years out of date, I strongly urge you to make a full backup of your files before you start.

Note that if you do a factory reset when the process is completed (and then restore the files from the backup) you will end up with significantly faster performance.

Thanks so much for your response. It's the firmware update to 6.2.5 that failed (see one of the screenprints on the attached document). Any idea why the update aborted?

      Thanks!
