ReadyNAS 1100 dropping off network

Hi (first time post)
I have two ReadyNAS devices an 1100 running 4.1.6 and a 2100 running 4.2.9

the 1100 is the location that our AV system movies are stored the 2100 is used for business back up and data

it would appear that the 1100 is beginning to have issues, we recently had a power outage for 10 hours and since that time the 1100 has needed frequent restarts and couple of firmware reboots which is a nuisance for a start. primarily the failure exhibited is that the AV system is no longer able to connect the 1100.

When using RAIDar to check the network the 1100 is not present. rebooting generally corrects this and the system all works again

I have started receiving Disk 2 errors and have ordered replacement disk but I am concerned that this may not be the root cause as being a Raid 5 array a dying disk should not cause the system to drop off the network

each time I reboot the 1100 I check the system health and note all the operational characteristics temperatures etc are okay

once i realised there was a disk problem I tried a resynch and all seemed okay for a while then I got errors on disk 3

a firmware boot later and problems subsided (still awaiting delivery of replacement disks) and disk 2 errors seem to persist but disk 3 is stable once more

I can post the log if this would be useful.

Question: Is it possible for one faulty drive to cause this sort of problem with the 1100 simply not communicating over the ethernet network?

Question: If I remove the faulty disk is it likely that the system will become stable once again?

Question: As I do not have the replacement drive yet should I remove the faulty drive from the disk caddy and reinsert the empty caddy to ensure correct airflow

Question: Or should I be looking to remove the 1100 and send it for service?

While waiting for the delivery of the replacement drives I thought it may be useful to move a copy of all the kids movies to the 2100 so that the kids could still watch their favourites and I would redirect the AV system to a share on the 2100.

I am using RSYNCH to do this, easy enough to set up, but the unreliability of the 1100 is causing the back up routine to stall and needs a reboot and a restart... frustrating and will take too long and need constant monitoring

i have a spare ReadyNAS NV+:

Question: could I remove the 3 healthy drives from the 1100 and put them into the NV+ and would this system then rebuild so that it could be used to replace the 1100 until the 1100 is back from repair?

I have had the 1100 for 3 years with no issue so I am learning a lot in a very short period of time and my apologies for all the questions but any and all input gratefully apprecited

So both NASes running very old firmware. Don't update the firmware on the 1100 while it is having problems.

Question 1: A faulty drive can cause all sorts of problems. Normally it's handled gracefully but as disks can and do fail at any time sometimes unfortunately it can cause the NAS to hang. You might wish to power down, remove all disks (label order), connect to SATA port on PC and check them using vendor tools

Question 2: Provided there's not some other hardware problem (e.g. another failing disk), yes.

    Question 3: Yes

Question: You could power off the NAS and leave it off till the replacement disk arrives. If you like open a tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) case.

You cannot migrate a non-redundant array. Do not attempt to migrate your disks to the NV+ while the array is non-redundant.
