ReadyNAS 316 Factory Drives and Warranty

What are the factory drives in an RN31662D?

Is the warranty 5 years on the factory installed drives as well?

Who provides the warranty for the drives (Netgear or the manufacturer of the drives)?

This information doesn't seem to be listed anywhere.

Standard warranty for the hard drive. Can RMA pre-installed drives via NetGear, I think. D indicates desktop drives not Enterprise so the warranty on the disks would be less than 5 years. The disks included are from the compatibility list but the model chosen may vary over time depending on various factors such as availability.
  • Is there a guarantee that it would 7200RPM drives? Or could the pre-installed drives be 5400?

Desktop drives would likely be 5400RPM for their lower cost and lower power consumption.

If you want to choose your own drives buy diskless and choose drives from the compatibility list.
  • Does anyone know if the ST2000DM001 is being used in factory units?

This is the only dive I would not want since it only has a 1 (maybe 2) year warranty.

The price I found for a RN31662D would put each drive at around $94 (e.g. unit with 6x2TB is around $560 more than diskless).
