ReadyNAS 516 Questions

Is the ReadyNAS 516 the successor to the ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition?
Does the ReadyNAS 516 include all the features of ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition?
Is the ReadyNAS 516 the only ReadyNAS model with ECC memory?
When will the ReadyNAS 516 hardware compatibility list be available?
Will 516 HCL include hard drives already on the Pro Business Edition HCL?
Thanks, gregb

No. It is the successor to the Pro 6 which was the successor to the Pro Business Edition. It is the logical choice for a new ReadyNAS if you have the Pro Business Edition.

No. It has some new features and some old EOL features are no longer included. What features do you need?

It is the only desktop ReadyNAS model to have ECC memory that I can remember, certainly the first ever desktop ReadyNAS model with an Intel CPU to use ECC memory.

It is already available at http://www.readynas.com/hcl

A few of them as can be seen already. However due to the different filesystem you will need to purchase new disks for the 516 and to transfer the data across your network.

The HCL list for USB supported UPS devices links to the user forum (the HCL was a list from Netgear a few years ago).
Is the HCL list for USB supported UPS devices all forum based?
Where is the ReadyNAS 516 HCL list for USB supported UPS devices?
    Thanks, Greg
  • NTGR doesn't maintain HCL for items besides HDDs. You're on your own there.

Windows XP isn't listed on the supported OS list (ReadyNAS OS 6.0 Software Manual).
Is this just a matter of limiting backward compatibility, or are there specific issues with Windows XP compatibility?

Microsoft will finally be ending support for Windows XP in under a year. It's time to move on to newer versions of Windows.

ReadyNAS OS may/may not work with Windows XP, but even if it does work NetGear would probably be unable to provide support should you encounter issues.
