- rpattenAspirantI apologize if this is a duplicate question. I searched the forum and couldn't find a definitive answer.
I am planning to purchase a ReadyNAS DUO and Samsung 1TB drives. The Spinpoint F1 drives are listed on the HCL but the newest version of what seems to be the same hard drive, the Samsung Spinpoint F3 drives are not. Does anyone know if the F3 drives are compatible?
Thanks. - schalliolAspirantOk, well, now that 4.1.7 is out and supports 4K sector drives, is there any reason to believe that the 2TB Constellation ES drives won't work on the NV+? Better yet, can someone from NETGEAR chime in on this, even if the answer is "unsure"? I know that they read these threads! They're still not on the compatibility list. I really don't want to buy a bunch only to find out they don't work, but I much prefer these drives to the other 2TB choices on the list. Thanks!

These are enterprise class drives and are normally tested on just the rack mount and business units. That being said however they should work OK but to make sure let us install some in an NV+ to make sure. Also I don't think these drives are using the 4K sectors yet, WD is the only drive manufacture really is pushing 4K sector drives throughout their entire line. The other manufactures are not transitioning as quickly. These are expensive drives so unless you absolutely need them right away give us a week or so to check them out. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe thing is of course that there are 1100 (now discontinued) and NV+ units out there that are still under warranty (remember the warranty is 5 years on 1100 purchases and used to be 5 years on new NV+ purchases) and were in the rackmount and business unit categories when purchased.
So although the NV+ is now targeted at home users, the NV+ still retains its business features. The NV+ and 1100 are still used in the workplace and I'm sure schalliol isn't the only one out there wanting to use enterprise disks in what were enterprise units at the time of purchase.
Personally though I currently use my NV+ units for home use and haven't gone to the expense of using enterprise drives. - Han_SoloTutor

Yea I have to agree with you on that. I will make sure that not only are the ES drives qualified on the Sparc based platforms but the other current Enterprise class drives. We normally use enterprise class drives in our Sparc based systems in the lab but no formal drive qual was done on them. - schalliolAspirant

Thanks, Han Solo!!! I would love to see these tested on whatever timetable works, and I know I'm not the only one who is interested from this thread. My plan was to start with three drives and add a fourth when needed. I have my 4 750s (cuda ES) that are nearly full and I should be able to get three for not too much of a premium over the more consumer oriented drives [not meant for high density storage] and buy a 4th when these aren't hot in a year or more. These drives effectively replace the drives I have now (well the ES.2, which replaces the ES) and those were popular in NV+s when I purchased it.
Thanks again! - pjc1Aspirant
Thanks so much! It's gotten nearly impossible to find ES.2 drives any more, and I didn't want to risk my data to an unqualified drive. (That was, after all, the whole point of using enterprise grade drives.)Han Solo wrote: I will make sure that not only are the ES drives qualified on the Sparc based platforms but the other current Enterprise class drives. Of course, if the 2TB Constellations also qualify, I might just have to take the plunge...
As schalliol said, whatever timetable works. It's not so urgent that I need to know in the next "week or so." (Besides, you guys have been hard at work -- I hope you take some time off for Thanksgiving!) - schalliolAspirant

 - Tomaso1AspirantI am a new member on this forum because I am considering buying a ReadyNAS Duo to act as a media and file store and primary back-up.
Not being deeply technical, the many 100 pages on reliability issues leave me baffled :?, and no up-to-date summary seems to exist. Please can somebody tell me
1- which are the largest known-to-be-reliable disks on the HCL? I would love 2TB disks but they all seem to fail in droves.
2- whether I will get reliable disks buying the Duo with the pre-installed disks on the 2-for-1 offer, or should I buy the empty box and source the disks myself?
Thank you in advance! - M635_GuyAspirant

+1
I'd really like to get the Samsung 2TB drives, because the Hitachi's I want are really spendy. It would be great to know what is in the hopper, at least...
