ReadyNas Duo and Seagate ST3000DM001 3T
Hi,
I've just fitted 2 x 3T ST3000DM001 HD into my readynas duo but only 746GB are available.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe Duo v1 (runs RAIDiator 4.1.x or earlier) does not support drives larger than 2TB in capacity.
- Rosbif1AspirantWhy does it not give me 2T then, rather than 746GB?
- PapaBear1ApprenticeIt sounds as if you may have a Duo (v1) which will not support drives larger than 2TB. It would give you 2TB if they were supported but not fully usable. Unfortunately the 3TB drives require a formatting type (GPID) that the Duo cannot do. It only works with MBR drives.
You have several options on how to proceed. However, to find out which one is available, a few more facts are needed.
1. How long have you had the Duo?
2. If you have had it a while and had other drives in the unit, how did you remove them? a) With the unit turned off or b) with the unit on, replacing them one at a time with the 3TB drives. (I am concerned about retrieving any data that may have been on the unit). - Rosbif1AspirantI've had the Duo v1 for a while but never really used it... I stored stuff locally on my media center instead... until the HD died and decided to use the NAS.
The Nas was fitted with 1x 1.5TB drive. (That was hardly used).
I removed the 1.5TB drive from the NAS, when it was switched off and then fitted the 2x3TB. Did a factory reset as well.
Only 746GB detected.
What's the best thing to do? Get a ReadyNas Duo V2 or better? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredEither fall back to using 2TB or lower capacity drives or get a new NAS. Do note that the RAID format of the Duo/NV+ (ARM) and the Ultra/Pro (x86) is different to that of the Duo v1. So you would need to do a factory reset in the ARM or x86 NAS to wipe the 3TB disks.
- Rosbif1Aspirantwill get a duo V2
Thanks! - Rosbif1Aspirantwhat would you guys recommend for a 4 bay NAS that supports 3TB HDDs?
Personally I like the ultra and pro products. Though of course the NV+ V2 should also be on the list.Rosbif wrote: what would you guys recommend for a 4 bay NAS that supports 3TB HDDs?
