ReadyNas Duo gone from network
Hi
I have a Ready Nas Duo approx 4 or 5 years old and during the recent thunder and lightning storms we had a power cut. We have a UPS and all computers and NAS were turned off. So far so good.
When turning everything back on the UPS has dead batteries and the Ready Nas boots up with a solid blue light but does not show on the network and it cannot be pinged. (Network Win 7)
I have purchased another ReadyNas 312 with no disks. Do we need to install any software? the disks are Hitachi Ultrastar 1TB from memory.
Can I swap out the disks in the old NAS and put them in the new one? I am away from our site and have to instruct a staff member how to proceed.
Thanks for any help
Mark

- I'd start by powering down the NAS, removing drive 1 and rebooting. If that fails, you can probably recover data by connecting drive 1 to a windows PC and installing linux reader (http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/)
You won't be able to migrate your data to the 312 directly, you'll need to restore it from backup. - Mr_PaperArtsyAspirantOK so I am one of those fools who doesn't have a backup to restore from. assuming I can get the data from one of the disks in the old NAS box will I be able to simply copy the directories on to the new box?
Thanks - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you have a spare disk (not from your array) to put in the 312 support does have a method to help recover your data, but you would need somewhere to backup that data too.
- Mr_PaperArtsyAspirantHi
I have 2 new disks just arrived for the 312. Problem is I am on holiday and staff on site are not IT savvy. If they download and use the software mentioned in the first reply and plug one of the drives from the Duo will they be able to access files in a read only manner for printing etc on a windows 7 PC. Then they can get on with work and I will be able to set up the new 312 when I get back next week.
thanks for your help - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou would need to get support to help.
If using the 312 to recover data it is important not to put the disk from the Duo in until support instructs to do so (otherwise you risk it being wiped). - Mr_PaperArtsyAspirantI meant to say could they use that software and plug the drive directly into a win 7 machine via USB to see and use files? (Disk internals software)
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWould need a USB enclosure for the disk. If you were using X-RAID only one disk will have the partition table on it. If the disk appears to be blank (it isn't) then they probably picked the wrong one.
- Mr_PaperArtsyAspirantOkay will give this a try. Thanks
- Mr_PaperArtsyAspirantPhew that has allowed me to copy files to another disk for use until I get home. Don't need this kind of stress while on holiday.
Thanks for your help
