ReadyNAS Duo V2 Issues I am having.
I have owned the ReadyNAS Duo V2 for quiet some time now but have never gotten it to work correctly. I can finish the setup process correctly but if the system looses power or is shutdown it act's as if it was never setup. I have 4x HITACHI PN:0F10312 and 2x HITACHI PN:0F12115. All the drives are 2TB drives. If I use the drives in the system (ReadyNAS Duo V2) I can format them and write to the but once I shutdown the system or it looses power I have to start over. I am going to order some WD Red driver for the system (ReadyNAS Duo V2). I would like to use my current HITACHI drives in my Desktop but I cant format them. I am assuming that the drives are locked by the ReadyNAS Duo V2. How can I unlock these drives to start using them in a windows system. I have tried multiple different partitioning tools (windows and Linux both).

- NhellieVirtuosowhat firmware are you using on this? did you try it with only one drive on the unit?
- LawlisJ1AspirantI am running the latest firmware. Netgear said it was because I have drives that are not on the H/W compatibility list. and yes I have tried to use just one drive but no change.
- vandermerweMasterI don't think using different drives is going to solve your problem, but do you have at least one drive that is?
Firstly do you have a duo v1 or v2, read this to find out:

What is actually happening when you power down and boot back up again? Are you saying you are losing the configuration settings? Does the data remain intact or are you losing the volume as well?
What firmware is installed on the nas?
What size are those disks?
I would start by confirming that at least 2 equal sized drives are healthy by testing them with vendor tools. Each disk manufacturer has these which you need to run on your PC.
As for using the disks, are you going into computer management and disk manager and deleting the partitions first? - LawlisJ1Aspirant

I currently do not but I am looking into ordering some. I have the Duo V2. I am losing the configuration setting and the volume. The current firmware is version 5.3.11. I have been using exact same model drives of each instance (2TB Disk). I have tried the HITACHI test tool and it returns no errors. I cant find a HITACHI format tool (If you know of one please let me know). I have tried to use DIskPart and tried to format the disk under computer management but it wont do anything to the disk. It says something to the affect that it has failed. I have tried this under windows 7 & 8. - vandermerweMasterHas the duo ever worked?
When do you get it?
Do you buy it new? - LawlisJ1Aspirant

It works with no issues as long as the power doesn't go out or need to be powered off. I bought it i would say about 2 years ago and it was brand new. I was in japan when I bought it new - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThis sounds like you could have aborted a factory default with a secure erase.
I can check this if you like. - LawlisJ1Aspirant

I'm sure I didn't, but tell me what you need me to do. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCheck your PM inbox. I can try unlocking the disks
- vandermerweMasterI would certainly make sure with a disk on the HCL that the chassis is ok before the warranty expires.
