ReadyNAS NVX will not power on
Model: ReadyNas NVX 4220
Firmware: 4.2.28
Issue: no power
I had to move my ReadyNAS NVX and I powered it down successfully. I opted to have it do a scan on next power up.
Later, when I had placed it in the new location, I plugged it in and then nothing. No lights on the front panel; LED was dark. Tried plugging it into different outlets but same thing though I did notice a red/organge LED was on somewhere in the back of the unit. (Yes I have a backup but due to moving around a bit I hadn't reconnected the backup in over a week, so getting this powered on to get back the data that accumulated in the readynas over that week is important.)
This ReadyNAS is out of hardware warranty so no more included support from Netgear. However, from reading the forums, it appears this might be a power supply failure.
I'm looking to purchase a power supply but not 100% sure what to buy. I found the following at NewEgg. Is this a reasonable replacement?
SeaSonic SS-250SU 250W 250W 1U 80+ Bronze Certified APFC Power Supply - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151142&ignorebbr=1
Alternatively, might make sense for me to get a new ReadyNASas well. Which would be the most recent model where I can put in the existing drives and be back in business?
Yes, the NVX uses a Mini-ITX, aka Flex ATX, form factor power supply like that one; and you do not need, nor is there room for, an extension cable. It does have a different pin-out, even though it has a standard looking ATX connector, so be warned. Search the forum for "legacy power supply" for a more complete message from me and use the pin-out from the reply (original link is no longer valid). That 250W one does have sufficient 12V power per the listed specs.

- dtarinLuminaryah never mind about the guide. Realized there was a screw under a void warranty sticker. Well it's out of warranty anyway so I peeled it off and whoala, a hidden screw.
ok now back to finding a replacement for this..- SandsharkSensei - Experienced User

Thanks for the info.
Since I can sometimes be absent minded with things (such as I almost mixed up the order of my HD's!) I'm okay paying a lilttle more for a power supply if it saves me from adapting the pin config (and subsequently frying my NAS if I do it incorrectly).
So I purchased an adapted power supply from a company in the UK that seem to have found a niche in making these supplies. Found them through amazon:
NETGEAR Spare Power Supply Unit for Readynas Nv & Nv+

- dtarinLuminaryIs there a guide on how to remove the power supply? I attempted to dismantle the nvx but I can seem to figure out how get to the power supply.

I'll let someone else comment on the supply. SFX supplies should work, but you might need a short 24-pin extender, and you should double-check the outputs to make they are aligned to what you have now.
On your second question, you can't migrate your disks to any current NAS. All run OS 6, not OS 4.2, and all use BTRFS for the data volume. You can mount the disks as read-only on a new NAS, which will give you the ability to offload the data to backup. There's more info on that here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29957
