ReadyNAS Pro 6 or Ultra Plus - CPU - which is in which model
Hi guys,
I've been lerking around the forums for a while. After a lot of research I've decided to get a ReadyNAS 6 with a fast processor. I want X-RAID2 and and 6 bays, but I also want to be able to transcode 1080p video, so the atom options are out. I want to get a diskless unit, as I have a couple of 1.5tb that I want to move from my main PC into it, then add some 3tb over time.
What I find quite frustrating thought is there is no OFFICAL CPU speed. The offical specs just say intel dual core. It doesn't say atom, where the others do, and everyone seems pretty confident that it's not an atom.
I've seen it reported as an E2160 1.8Ghz, an E5300 2.6Ghz (http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=499) and a 2.8Ghz (no mention of Pentium or full core2duo, I imagine pentium).
This seems to be a case of Netgear putting in faster processor as they get cheaper or end of lifed, which is fine and make sense...... EXCEPT I want to know what I am actually getting. I'd hate to get one from old stock and get a 1.8ghz machine that can't transcode, or an atom.
So what model has what processor, so I can make sure I get what I actually need. Does the Ultra Plus 6 have the same CPU as the Pro 6, What about the Pro 6 business vs pioneer?
What I really think we need is a list of what model (eg. RNDP6000-V2, RNDP600E-100AJS, RNDP6000-200) has what CPU (and any other differentiators), and what name it goes under (eg Pro 6, Ultra 6, Ultra 6 Plus), so that when I go to buy one I can check the model and make sure I am getting what I really need.
Help me Yohdah.. you're my only hope.... unless someone else knows the answer.
Thanks,
apeofjungle.
P.S. So far really impressed with these forums. Lot of good threads.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTake a look at the link you gave, CPU Specs of the ReadyNAS. The Pro 6 (RNDP6000-200 aka RNDP6000-V2) has the 2.6Ghz Pentium CPU you need. The Ultra 6 Plus (RNDP600U-200), Pro Pioneer (RNDP600E-100) and the Pro Business Edition (RNDP6000-100) have the slower 1.8Ghz Pentium CPU.
The Pro 6 (released last year) replaced the discontinued Pro Business Edition. NetGear only started using Atom CPUs in some models last year (Atom CPUs are found in Ultra 2/4/6, Ultra 2/4 Plus, Pro 2/4). The Pentium CPUs used in the 6-bay models mentioned above are faster than the Atom CPUs used in some other ReadyNAS (also mentioned above).
Btw, you can look up CPUs on Intel's site e.g. simply doing a google search for E5300 reveals: http://ark.intel.com/products/35300/Intel-Pentium-Processor-E5300-(2M-Cache-2_60-GHz-800-MHz-FSB)
Welcome to the forum! - apeofjungleAspirantHi mdgm,
Your website was one of the ones that I used in my research. Thank you. It's great when people put their time into helping us poor saps out.
That is brilliant. It's a shame that it's not all in the offical documentation (at least that I can find). It would be great to have it on the comparison charts, and to have the business and consumer ones on the same page. A lot of consumers seem to want the Pro for home, for much the same reasons that I do. - JMehringApprenticeI just purchased the Ultra 6 plus with the E2160 CPU about 3 weeks ago. The first unit was DOA but was promptly replaced by Netgear (I have a service contract). At the time of purchase I had no idea I could even get a pro for around the same price so I looked into returning my device but they won't (reseller) take it back since its not the unit I purchased from them (its a replacement from Netgear).
So is it possible to just replace the E2160 with a E5300 since they have same socket? I am unsure if the motherboards, etc are the same for both the ultra 6 plus and pro. This would be ideal for me since I am now stuck with the ultra (I got the ultra plus because of plex server, and it can not transcode without freezing picture all the time).
Thanks - PapaBear1ApprenticeThat would of course void your warranty.
- stgeorgeGuideAre we on the verge of seeing a v3 come out? I noticed that they recently improved the Duo and the NV in the latest offerings.....
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPro was released late 2008, I think. Pro 6 was released late 2010. As for what new products NetGear has planned for the future we can only guess,
