ReadyNAS Ultra+ 2 USB 3.0 Hard Drives
I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 2 running firmware 4.2.28. I've had it for a few years and can't seem to get a USB 3 drive to work on the front port. When I first bought it I tried a "Seagate Expansion 500 G...

That is an old BIOS. Please install this add-on: http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/x86/4.2/BIOS_Update_Package_0.5-x86.bin

Would be easiest to
- Power down
- Remove disks (label order)
- Put a scratch disk (must not be from array) in NAS
- Downgrade to 4.2.28
- Install BIOS update add-on
- Verify update is successful
- Update back to 6.5.0
- Confirm back on 6.5.0
- Power down
- Remove scratch disk
- Put disks back in (same order as before)
- Power On
But before you do all that you should check if you have the latest BIOS for your NAS already installed or not.
You can update the BIOS of a Pro 4 using SSH on OS6 but that's not recommended.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot! I'm in the middle of a 500GB transfer right now. I'll upgrade the BIOS this evening after it finishes & let you know what happens. Thanks again!

After updating the BIOS:
11/02/2011 ReadyNAS-ProUltra2 V1.8
I still cannot see a USB3 Hard Drive from the USB 3.0 front port. Below is what I get after updating the BIOS. Can't lie but FreeNAS is looking prettier & prettier the more I deal with my ReadyNAS. I would like for simple functionalty to function simply & intuitively. This has not been the case since I bought my NAS.

There will be no more firmware updates for the Ultra 2+.
You could try ReadyNAS OS 6 but that's unsupported. With the newer kernel, Debian distro etc. it's possible that the Ultra 2+ may work with a wider range of USB3 drives.
