ReadyNAS Ultra 4 HD choice
Hi all,
I am having a difficult time making the best choice for hard drives to accompany a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 system. As I am located in regional Australia hard drive choices are limited, and I have decided to order them from Umart.
FIrstly I was looking at simply running 4x1TB Western Digital Caviar Green hard drives - WD10EARX ($55) - however the model is not listed on the Hardware Compatibility List.
My total budget for drives at this time is around 200 dollars, so I decided that it would probably be better to look at 2x2TB Green - WD20EARX ($84) - hard drives for now (and two more later).
Now, I have been told by a few friends that it would probably be best to stick with WD drives, and I've had a pretty good experience with them so far.
What I would really appreciate knowing is -
1) Should I go with the 4x1TB for extra storage or the 2 now, 2 later.
2) Has anyone had any trouble with either of these drives, as they are not on the HCL (everything on the HCL is either not sold by umart or too expensive/not right size)
3) Would green's be fine for media streaming (1080P Mkv's) and as a main storage system (code/music/games). I don't care *too* much about speed, but it would be nice to be able to stream to my 59 inch TV without problems. (and have 1-3 users checking in code from time to time).
4) Would anyone suggest any other hard-drives (Hitachi etc) that Umart sell that have similar capacity/specs/price that are (possibly) on the HCL?
Thanks beforehand for any help.
[edit] I apologize beforehand if this should be in another forum, Haven't bought anything yet so presales seemed appropriate.

- I have an NV+ which is running the older WD20EARS without any problems, and a new PRO 6 which has one of the EARX 3 TB drives (couldn't find the older model). Both are working fine. "Green" drives have more than enough performance to stream 1080p MKV and BluRay (full BlueRay requires about 7 MB/second, you will get much higher speeds with the Ultra). You might be limited by your network, esp. if you use powerline or WifI. But not the disk drives.
There are a couple of low-level settings that some people change on WD green drives. I'm not making a recommendation (one way or another), just calling it to your attention. If you search the forum you'll find more information on this.
