Readynas Ultra 6
I guess I spoke to soon. After using my NAS for a day I shut it down. The next day it would not boot. Just displays ReadyNAS. It may not have shutdown clean.
I'm not sure how I got past it before but at some point I got it to the boot menu. Not now.
I've tried everything I've read here.
I removed the drive.
Will not load boot menu.
Will not boot usb recovery.
Swapped Power supply.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Swapped Power supply. You might also want to check that the memory is seated.

If you have a serial TTL to USB adapter, you don't need a VGA adapter.
The standard baud rate is 9600. You also don't need to take the NAS apart.
There should be a small rectangular silver adhesive strip on the back of the NAS; the serial port is underneath it.
I have the ReadyNAS Ultra 4 RNDU4000, and it works perfectly. I can even access the BIOS.

I have no idea what the jumpers are for. Netgear has never published that info. I suspect one is for clearing the BIOS, but I don't even know which one. Adding the VGA cable is a good place to start when trying to debug a failure to boot condition. They can be hard to find these days, but I've bought them from pccables.com and they do still carry it (if you are in the USA). Theirs is long enough that you can mount it permanently in the cut-out on the NAS rear panel.
