Yes. I'd recommend an X-RAID2 dual-redundant volume, so that if two disks fail data remains intact.

Great! Do note that you can't simply migrate your disks across from your Infrant ReadyNAS 600 (Sparc) to the new ReadyNAS Ultra 6 (x86). You'll need to transfer your data e.g. across your network.
  • I'm using raid-5 right now and suits me well, can do that too with new box? I want to have as much space as i can keeping data safe.

    Yes you can still use X-RAID2 single-redundancy (like RAID-5) or Flex-RAID RAID-5.

Do note that data stored on one device is not safe. Important data should not be trusted to a single device. You should preferably keep copies of important data in multiple locations at all times. You may wish to keep your 600 to backup the important data on your new NAS.
  • It's a good use for the older slower ReadyNAS units like your 600 and my 4 1/2 year old NV+. Using rsync (after NFS for the initial backup) it only takes a few minutes to back up a share (unless you have add hundreds of megabytes of data). It is a good comfort knowing that every night the units backup one to the other automatically. It is still recommended a periodic backup be made and taken off site in case of disaster (fire, theft, weather, etc). Keeping your 600 in that service will keep it warm and happy. (While I do not have disk spin down enabled on my primary NAS, it is on the backup units.)
  • thanks for all the info, just ordered ultra6. I would like to keep my 600 box but I've been having isuues with shut down. I hope that after I move all data to new box I can do factory reset on 600..

Yes after transferring your data across you should be able to do a factory reset on the 600. I would suggest updating the 600 to RAIDiator 4.1.7 or later before doing the factory reset if possible as factory reset on 4.1.7 or later gives 4k sector alignment.
  • I have been using the product Readynas ultra 6 RNDU6000 for almost 7 months. Meanwhile when I first started using it I had lttle pros as to the understandings. Now it is good to go with for me.
