ReadyNasDuo unreachable. Can't shutdown on powebutton

Hello,

I have a serious problem with my readyNasDuo.
I has been working quite good for a while but now it can be reached or shutdown.

It doesn't react on pressure on the powerbutton.
In the administration panel of my router I can see that the NAS is not presented as it
use to when everything works.

Is there anything I can do?

I have many photos on my Nas that I bought to backUp my photos :(
1.4 TB of data....

Please help me

Best regards!

  • Is the Duo a backup of images stored elsewhere, or are they only on the Duo?

To shut down via the power button, you need to press and hold for 5-10 seconds. Brut power (pulling the plug) will aways work, but I would hold off doing that just yet.
  • What version of RAIDIATOR is on your Duo?

    What disks are installed?

Are you using DHCP or Static IP?

I would try to power down then reboot which *may* solve your immediate issue. As Papabear said, hold down the power button for a few seconds until it blinks. This will begin the power down process. Unit will shutdown in 10 seconds or so.
  • Hello guys,

    Thank you for helping!

I have tried to press and hold the powerbutton for longer period than 5 seconds but the NAS just not reacts.
I use to shut the nas down every night before and it worked well. It reacted after holding the power button down
    for a few seconds.

I have tried to pull the powerplus out and the NAS shuts down :)
and I can start it again pushing the power button.
After some syncing and checking (power button blinking) the NAS starts
but is not able to shut it down or access by the net.
It doesn't get any IP-address and it should get one specific.

In the administration for my router I can't see the NAS connected but all other
computers and mobiles. I have tried to exchange the network cable.

I have two Western Digital Green hard drives in there. 1.5Tb each. X-Raid
I haven't updated the firmware for a while and right now I don't know what version there's installed.

    Best regards!
  • How long have you been using those drives?

They are not on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) as there is only one approved for use and that one is a Seagate.
  • I have been using those drives for a while and they have worked well.
NAS have been working well until recently.

    What can I do?

If I buy a new readyNasDuo, can I put my disks in there and
    carry on?

I'm going to try to backup data by sticking in an USB disk
tomorrow. Now it's time for some beers :)

    Regards!
  • If the Duo itself had failed, yes you could buy a new Duo (or NV+) and install the disks (best to keep the disk in the same relative slot) and simply power up and it would come right up with the configuration and data intact.

However, I do not think it is a problem with the Duo.

If you have a spare disk, power down the Duo, remove the two disks (noting the slot in which each drive had been) and then remove one from the tray, install the spare drive and power up the Duo. If the Duo comes right up and establishes a new one disk array, you know your Duo is fine. Unfortunately, most problems are with a disk, not the NAS.

Your situation is complicated by the fact you are using non approved disks.
  • Hello again,

After some phoning with Netgear support in Sweden I have come a bit longer.
My data is still unreachable but my nas works after reset and new harddrive.

    1. I bought new hard drive
    2. I installed it in bay 1 and all other disk taken out
    3. I started readyNas with reset button pushed down

After some minutes my Nas was working again.

After that I took out the new drive and tried with only old bay2 drive. Nas won't start.
I tried the same thing with old bay1 hard drive withous success.
Nas wont start and I can't reach it with RAIDar.

I suppose theres some trouble with my disks.

Is there a way to connect those drives to a Windows PC to see if theres some data that
    I can copy?
A guy on Neatgear support sad that it may be possible with a pc running Linux.

    Hope there's a way,

    Best regards!
