Recommendation external enclosure with WD 3TB red..?

Hi there,

I want to backup my Readynas to an external HD and therefore want to use an WD red 3TB (as it is compatible to the Readynas for maybe later upgrades) within an external USB3.0 enclosure.

I bought a FANTEC DB-F8U3E, but experienced, that the WD red 3TB drive isn't recognized, whereas the Seagate Barracuda 1TB delivered with the Readynas are well recognized within that enclosure.

Does anybody have a checked recommendation for an external enclosure that is compatible to a WD red 3TB?

Thanks!

  • Is your readynas model certified for 3Tb disks ? If it doesn't support them in inside bays, it's likely it won't support them with USB.
EDIT sorry didn't see you statement between ( & ).

Did you try to plug the WD with USB on another device like a computer ?
  • yes i tried it with an sata-usb-interface on my laptop. It worked there. It is an incompatibility of the external enclosure and the WD red 3TB disk.

I am getting lost in all the "its", so I can't figure out what works.

When you connect the enclosure with the 3 TB WDC disk inside to your PC's USB port, does that work?
  • sorry for confusion.

    working:
    - wd red 3 TB with usb-sata-adapter on the laptop
    - Seagate Barracuda 1 TB within said external enclosure via USB to the laptop

    not working:
    - wd red 3 TB within said external enclosure connected via USB to the laptop

    not tested further:
    - wd red 3 TB within external enclosure connected to the Readynas

The question was, what external enclosure is knwon to work with the 3 TB WD red at least on a laptop.

    Thanks!
