RN NV+ v2 & WD Red 4TB
I checked the HCL and found the WD Red 4TB WD40EFRX was listed as acceptable. But elsewhere in the forums it mentioned searching for that specific model. I couldn't find any posts on the nv+ v2 (fw: 5.3.9). Any gotchas I should be aware of? I'm replacing a failing Seagate 3TB 7200rpm 64mb cache with it. Elsewhere on the form it was stated the drives don't need to be the same make/model, but I plan to slowly replace all the drives with this WD drive.
Should I make sure the hd's firmware is current by plugging it into the pc first or just plug into the nas and let it go as is?

- vandermerweMasterThe newer red drives need an adjustment to the idle timer to avoid very high load cycle counts. There is a tool from wd that allows you to make this adjustment.
There is a fair amount of info on the forums about this, just search for load cycle count and read the threads referring to red drives. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI've had good luck with the WD30EFRX (though mine were shipped before WDC shortened the head-parking timer, so I didn't need to use their tool).
Generally I do run diags on a PC before installing, and check for firmware updates as part of that process.
