RN104 defrag problem
RN104, FW 6.2.4
4x3TB WD RED , RAID5 , x - raid , AV Off, Snapshots ON
running apps : SMBplus , Transmission, Linux-Dash, PHPSysinfo, Cacti, BTsync 1.4, istat, PHP,
instaled apps but turn Off: VPN server, Log analyzer
UPS on front USB, 1 usb stick in back USB for backup
When I start defragmentation (manually or as planned task), in 9 out of 10 launch in about 15-20 minutes will stop or at least restarting the admin web interface. At that moment Raidar 6 does not detect NAS. (or after a while telling me that admin interface is not running - if web admin interface wont restart automatically - than restart NAS with RAIDar is ony possibility for start admin interface again)
In the log I find :
Sat Jun 20 2015 5:20:12 System: ReadyNASOS background service started.
Sat Jun 20 2015 5:20:02 System: ReadyNASOS service or process (readynasd) was restarted.
Sat Jun 20 2015 5:00:02 Volume: Defragmentation started for Volume 'data'.
and no other info about deframentation complete. (I downloaded full logs, but I'm not able find cause of this behavior.) Tried eject connected USB drive before defrag - no effect.

- Kardano1GuideAfter Factory default i uploaded all my data back (4 TB)
Apps remain istat, SMB Plus, PHPsysinfo. Defrag and balance OK. No problem at all.
Defrag is less than 10 minutes :-)

- Kardano1GuideBTSync and istat Off, but still the same. Nas is unresponsive, waiting for admin interface relaunch and raidar 6 detection. No shares access, ping OK. After about 10 minutes NAS is back on. Shares are visible, bur Raidar indicates Management service is offline, but I get e-mail message, that Defragmentation completed for data on about 5:59 (defrag started 5:36). So defrag was done, e-mail sent and management service is offline. Usually i dont get e-mail abou defrag complete. I restart NAS at this point usually if i want admin web back.
I'll wait for further instructions before restart. I downloaded logs with Raidar if you want to see them, i'll send them. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you turn off your apps e.g. istat and btsync and see if the defrag then works?
It looks like your cacti mysql database needs a repair. - Kardano1GuideLogs sent. I hope that I have done correctly .
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPlease send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig).
- Kardano1GuideFree space is 3,75 TB (4x 3TB WD RED, 8,17 TB raid5 )
Snapshots are ON for share "DOCUMENT" (6GB of data and 9 snapshots -8 week protection, set weekly snapshots). For any other shares are snapshots setting OFF
balance is oK. pass within 2 or 3 minutes.
I found additional info. During problem with defrag Cacti shows no data on all charts. As if the NAS has been turned off. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI believe the log will only show the scheduled maintenance. It sounds like the defrag is still running (at least the NAS software thinks that's the case).
How much free space is in the volume? Did you try deleting snapshots before doing the defrag?
Also, have you ever tried balance?
BTW, snapshots should certainly be off in the transmission data folder, and possibly also btsync.
