RND4000, NV+ v1 -- RAM tests bad
ReadyNAS NV+ v1, 4 -WD 500GB Caviar drives, 256MB of memory.
The NAS has been running for a number of years as a basic file server. More for storage as it was accessed rarely. One day it locked up and I couldn't access it via Raidar or web page or Explorer. I shut it down and started it back up and it hung on Bootup.... forever. Tried it again, same thing. Did the USB boot using Raidar 4.1.8. (it had 4.1.6 I believe at failure time)
It still would not boot up. I ran the memory test twice and it failed both times with an error of, 83AD88B8.
What does this code tell me? Besides the stick is dead or dying..... :)

- OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertHow long ago did you get that unit?
It is possible that the memory was not able to pass that memtest info to the "83AD88B8" block of the disk. - ATG1AspirantThe box is 5-6 years old. Been running fine since I updated the drives about a year and a half ago.
After both runs of the memory test he full error was: "DRAM FAILED...." then the error code above. - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertThey were nice units. I still have one running myself.
It sounds like you might be out of warranty for having the unit so long... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf purchased before August 21, 2007 the unit would be out of warranty. Try to find out when you purchased it so the best advice can be given for the next step.
- ATG1AspirantI would be very suprised if it was still under warranty. I just want to know what the error code is telling me.
I suspect I will need to find new RAM and jump into that fun. - ATG1AspirantAnyone? Is the above error a memory block address or an actual error code?
I have the SN, but no record of purchase anymore.
I found a 1GB stick. Same make/mod as what ReadyNAS ships with its 1GB units. - PapaBear1ApprenticeFirst - Netgear ships 1GB memory modules with their x-86 based units which use DDR2 and DDR3 memory and the ARM based units which I believe use DDR3. The sparc based ReadyNAS units use DDR memory modules. Please make sure the slots in the modules are in the same place before you attempt to install it. The key slot is in different spots on DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 memory (both DIMM and SO-DIMM modules).
- OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertI was able to confirm the error code you got from the LCD from our engineers.
Display on LCD means value write to the memory is different than the value read back.
I hope that helps what you are looking for ATG - ATG1AspirantThank you Sir!! Just wanted to confirm it was telling me failed ram before I started down the "upgrade RAM' road. (read this after your PM ;) )
PapaBear, I did confirm the RAM I found to be DDR-333. 1GB DDR PC2700S (333) 200 Pin LAPTOP MEMORY - MICRON brand
Good to Go, right? - PapaBear1ApprenticeMaybe. One of the reasons that Netgear no longer maintains a compatibility list for memory modules is the fact that the manufacturers change them without changing the model numbers.
The one I have that did work is a Micron 1GB DDR-333 CL 2.5. The model number on the top line is MT16VDDF 12864HY 335D2. Since it was purchased from HP, it also has the HP sticker with P/N 396330-632. It has 8 square memory chips in two rows of four on each side of the module.
Here is a link to the data sheet. http://datasheetz.com/data/Memory%20Cards,%20Modules/Modules/MT16VDDF12864HY-335D2-datasheetz.html. Since I bought this in 2006, they may be difficult to find. Others with the spec of DDR333 CL2.5 may work and they may not. If you try one, best to run the memory test several times. Apparently from past posts, your chances are better for success if the module has 8 chips per side rather than the later 4 chips per side.
